Sunday’s action gets underway from Brighton and while Maiden Auction Stakes are not normally the most reliable betting propositions just by the unpredictable nature of these types of races, there is one horse who has really caught the eye in this one.
The William Muir stable are coming along nicely at the current moment and this is a track that their horses seem to enjoy, so Florencio looks like a horse who can enhance their record with a victory here.
The two-year-old stepped up on its debut effort to improve remarkably for its second outing at Bath last week and this looks like a nice opportunity for it to get off the mark with more improvement expected
The main danger comes in the form of Jamie Osbourne’s filly My Best Song. Once again this horse improved from its first outing to be narrowly beaten at Bath.
She looked as though a step up in trip would be in her favour that day, so the selection should have a better turn of foot at the distance, but she is interesting nonetheless and a worthy favourite for the race with the Cam Hardie claim also in her favour.
The top weight Aragon Knight sets the standard here with Martin Lane in the saddle, but Heather Main’s gelding is looking more exposed with every run so this looks like a duel between the aforementioned duo.
Florencio (WIN)

This looks like the feature contest of the afternoon’s racing at the seaside track.
The William Haggas team look unstoppable at present and so it is interesting to see him bring his progressive three-year-old Zaaneh to town.
The exciting filly got the win at the second time of asking in impressive fashion over 7f at Wetherby and then followed up just over a fortnight later in a a handicap on the all weather at Wolverhampton in commanding fashion.
She comes here as a worthy favourite and could be much shorter than the current 2/1 by the time the horses head to post.
Shasag was second over Course and Distance in the head gear last time out which suggests she should give her running again, but Roger Varian’s filly doesn’t look the most straight forward.
The main danger comes from another big hitting stable in the form of Luca Cumani’s Lilian Baylis who has a win and a close second to her name, but didn’t shape as if a drop back in trip was the answer last time out and so the Haggas horse gets the confident nod.
Zaaneh (WIN)
15:40 Curragh
The Futurity Stakes at the Curragh provides one of Sunday’s highlights and the all-conquering Aiden O’Brien stable go into the race heavy handed once more.
The Ballydoyle juggernaut have won the last two renewals of this race with the dual Guineas hero Gleneagles taking the spoils for the yard last year.
Lead jockey Joseph O’Brien has opted to ride the favourite Shogun this time around and is well fancied to give the stable yet another winner. Shogun when scooting up over course and distance back in July.
Stablemate Air Vice Marshall’s colours were lowered at Newmarket last time as he went down to Birchwood in a Group 2 contest, but with the benefit of that experience under his belt, he looks the pick of the Ballydoyle pair.
One horse that should take all the beating hails from another powerful yard in the form of the Jim Bolger trained, Godolphin owned, Herald the Dawn.
The full brother of the classy Dawn Approach could not have been any more impressive when romping up in a 7f Maiden at Naas to leave his debut second well behind him.
The stable clearly have massive confidence in the colt by giving him such a huge hike in class and that looks significant in pointing towards a big run.
