We start our day’s previews with a Class four six furlong handicap.
The top weighted Jubilee Brig destroyed the field in the final furlong at Carlisle last week and will probably will be well supported on that basis but he doesn’t just have to cope with a six pound penalty but also takes of a stiffer competition here today and may just struggle in this.
The lightly raced Memories Galore won comfortably over five furlongs at Wolverhampton last month so there could be more to come from him still and the market is already suggesting that but he’s another dealing with a rise in the weights and also takes on this distance for the very first time.
There are two that really stand out for me Spellmaker and Subversive, both are previous course and distance winners with the former winning when last seen here from a five pound higher mark; he definitely has a good chance at the places but the latter just looks the better of the two. Subversive is a typical Mark Johnston horse and does well if allowed to stay up with the leaders; he’s down to what should be a winning mark and could snatch this today.
Subversive (WIN)

Our second preview is class five handicap over ten furlongs.
This is probably a two horse race to be fair and the fact that Paul Hanagan’s only ride here today is on Baqqa tells the story already; he wasn’t disgraced when tried on this surface three weeks ago and looks to of been given a lenient mark on his handicap debut but you’ll need to get on him sooner than later to get a good price.
The obvious danger looks to be Tilstarr; he’s done well on this track in the past and has won over course and distance off a higher mark than this today but it’s hard to see him being able to catch the favourite for this.
Diletta Tommasa and Chella Thriller are also both course and distance winners but they both look to be in the handicappers grip and Fridge Kid’s second three weeks ago came in much lesser company.
Baqqa (WIN)
16:20 Carlisle
The final preview of the day is a seven furlong handicap.
The two market favourites Space War and Spirit Of Wedza would both be clear favourites if not racing each other like they are today; the latter has plummeted down the weights this year and showed some glimmer of hope last week when finishing second at Nottingham and also has the benifit to race off that same mark again today, the former showed a great display of staying power to win at Chester last month and even though he has a four pound penalty his young rider takes all that away and more and if he can reproduce that run again he’ll be very hard to catch.
Mustique Dancer has been very disappointing in all of her three races but she has very strong pedigree and if she’s come on now at the age of three she could be one to keep an eye on in the future.
Ythan Waters would definitely be one to back if the rain comes in overnight as he prefers a bit more give in the ground but as it looks like there will be no rain before the race he’s easily opposed but keep him in mind if it rains.
Spacewar (WIN)
