This is deceptively poor despite a few looking in decent form and so discounting any would be folly. Invoke has done us a good turn before and likes to make all the running, Tom Queally knows how to win on her and despite the 7lbs penalty for trotting up the last day she has every chance and looks likely to be afforded an easy lead. Pretty Bubbles is tough and handles a variety of tracks and surfaces, she will probably be running on late but she doesn’t look to have that much scope off this mark and so despite this being a poor race, she is overlooked for win purposes. Azagal is infuriating for one with such talent and often finds herself all dressed up with no place to go, on the occasions she has looked like going through with it she has also seemed unwilling so she clearly has her quirks. This is a big class drop for the Easterby mare however and Rachel Richardson’s claim looks a major positive. With a clear pace in the race in the shape of Invoke, Richardson can sit just behind the pace on Azagal and pounce late to register an overdue success.

The market is likely to be a good guide to a chances of a few in this maiden and a check is strongly advised before placing a bet. One of the very interesting ones is the Marsha, a well bred newcomer she is a half sister to the useful Judicial whom won her first three starts as a two year old. Trained by Sir Mark Prescott she may not strike as an early type but she is bred to be and any market strength would be very interesting despite the poor draw. Likely favourite Dark Shot has shown definite ability and lost little in defeat when collared late on at Salisbury the last day, he is easily the one to beat on what he’s achieved so far and although we are to take him on, he is clearly a big threat. Nokhada represents powerful owners and is trained by William Haggas who has been firing, he is related to winners and as the yard has done well with its newcomers he has to be respected. The selection however is fellow newcomer Silent Attack, a 60.000 Euro’s yearling he was purchased by Godolphin for 150.000 Guineas and although the yard have been relatively disappointing with their newcomers ( 1-21 ) but he is very well related and interestingly he has an entry in a conditions race here on Saturday. Drawn in the 5 box, he looks ideally berthed and can pounce late under James Doyle.

This looks very competitive and the race is well worth bearing in mind for future reference as winners are guaranteed to come out of it. Khusoosy is three from five and has won twice over the course. Clearly an improver he is sure to have his followers but a 7lbs penalty for winning here last time looks a little heavy handed and connections decision to play around with aids ( has won with a visor and without and now with cheekpieces ) is a little off putting and he may be a tricky type at home. Either way he clearly needs respecting but there are grounds to take him on and we will. Radhaadh made all at Chelmsford last time out, he was entitled to win that though and whilst he warrants respect, he too is taken on. Majeeed, Smartie Artie and Plutocracy have plenty to recommend on and all need considering but a chance will be taken on Landwade Lad following up on his victory over course and distance last time. The Fanshawe challenger had started to look like becoming a little exposed having had the previous five runs but he had always promised to go in and his manner of victory was very impressive. The obvious concern is whether ha can reproduce that effort as his trainer has had a few fail to follow up, he is officially 4lbs well in today however and a chance is well worth taking at the odds.
