PADDOCKS PATENT (FRIDAY)

18:00 Newmarket The presence of Bravo Echo in this should ensure the race is run at a decent clip, he himself has a decent chance of lasting it out and collecting some prize-money but his favoured track is Goodwood and he hasn’t been firing of late. Brian Ellison sticks two in this and Mon Brav finally got his head back in front the last day under a decent ride. This will be run to suit and he has definite place claims, stablemate Eastern Racer comes here in tremendous heart having won his last two, this is clearly tougher but he is progressive and is seriously respected. Explain has proved disappointing a few times lately and is another to respect along with Fever Few whom showed a good level of ability when winning last time. The selection however is the recently gelded Stake Acclaim, a lightly raced sort he has always looked potentially decent but has proven troublesome and pulled away his chance when last seen. The forecast rain wont deter his chances as he won his maiden on soft and with front-runners in attendance he looks a decent if speculative bet. Stake Acclaim (E/W if 9/2+)

19:35 Newmarket This is hardly a stonkingly good race and top weight Ocean Applause has ever chance of following up his course win of seven days ago, he is welter burdened however and although clearly the best horse in the race, his consistency is hardly a strong point and as such a chance is worth taking in opposing him. Golden Emerald is likely to land a race of this sort of nature in the near future and is entitled to go close in this, off the track for nine months his poor effort at Kempton last time is easy to forgive and his chances are clear. Hallingham is exposed and hardly prolific, he generally runs his race however and the trip should be fine. With the rest difficult to fancy, a chance will be taken on the consistent Hallingham to run into a place at double figure odds. Hallingham (E/W)

19:45 Catterick Lorimer’s Lot is now 17lbs below a mark she won off at Ripon and has a course and distance win to her name, clearly not in the same sort of form this year she has disappointed more often than not. A decent second here the last day behind a heavily backed sort was a good effort though and she may well be coming to the boil. Pavers Star made all last time at Newcastle and has major claims of following up, like a few of these however, consistency isn’t a strongpoint and he’s worth opposing on that. Majestic Manannan has every chance and is probably the best of these, the rain wont aid his chances however and he can only be respected on that score. Bold Spirit and Bosham hail from yards firing and want watching in the market and although Spend A Penny deserves to pick up one of these, he generally finds a few too good. The rest are difficult to fancy and so a chance is taken on Lorimer’s Lot to finally take advantage of her lowly mark. Lorimer’s Lot (WIN)
