TV TIPS (SATURDAY)

15:35 Doncaster – Grimthorpe Handicap Chase Doncaster takes centre stage today with the Grimthorpe Chase being the feature of a seven race card. Run over a trip of three miles and two furlongs and with nineteen fences to jump, this contest is now considered something of a Grand National Trial. Rocky’s Treasure has been heavily backed in the build up to this and hails from the yard of Kim Bailey, responsible for saddling 2016 winner, The Last Samurai. Largely progressive this season and unbeaten in his two prior visits to Town Moor, it is easy to see why he has been so popular. With every chance of being granted an easy lead one would expect him to go close, however, he arrives here on the back of a heavy defeat, wouldn’t want significant rain and is lumbered with top weight. Dingo Dollar jumped poorly when flopping here the last day, quite why he put in such a lifeless display is open to debate though a repeat would almost certainly see a similar result despite this being a drop in class. Relatively lightly raced for one of his age there is an angle to suggest he is much more at home on ground with plenty of juice in it, even allowing for that it would take plenty of courage backing him on this retrieval mission. Looking Well would probably have won at Kelso but for falling, sent here the time after he atoned for that mishap and doesn’t look over burdened up six pounds. Often a strong travelling type you suspect he could have this run to suite, worryingly however, he could only muster a last placed finish in this two seasons ago and he is a rather fragile type. With the market leaders appearing to have at least a question or two to answer, perhaps unsurprisingly a tentative, maybe even speculative vote is handed to Beau Du Brizais. From the Phillip Hobbs yard, this is a significant step up in class though he arrives here in fine fettle having won his last two starts. Still only six and likely one of the few whom could have a good deal of improvement left in him, he is taken to cause something of an upset in a tricky renewal. BEAU DU BRIZAIS (WIN)
