SUNDAY WEEKENDER

15:10 Navan

We start the day with a competitive handicap hurdle over two miles with ten runners.

This market is wide open with any number off four horses could be leading the market. Leave At Dawn, Black Spot On, Fruits of Glory and Pairofbrowneyes all have major chances based on form. Preference from the market leaders is for Leave At Dawn who was very well punted when winning a handicap hurdle and again when finishing down the lead. He is still probably better that his mark. Not much went right that day and given the market support they clearly think his better than this. He will be the selection but this is a completive handicap with plenty of chances.

The biggest danger could be Treacy Hotel Boy who has been running consistently and the yard are not back in form after a good four days at Cheltenham. While Inseperate is very interesting off a low mark for Tony Martin on only his third racecourse appearance.

Leave At Dawn (E/W if 4/1+)

16:40 Carlisle

Surprise Vendor leads the market currently in this two mile event and its clear to see why as he is now eleven pounds below his last winning mark. He showed improved form when only just losing out to Cowslip over two furlongs further than today’s trip. This horse will try and make all again but was raised significantly for his last run and am willing to overlook.

The selection is Snowed In. This horse is becoming a favourite of mine as he is very genuine and consistent. The form off his last run has worked out well and he can go in off a similar mark. Conditions look ideal and would be disappointed if not making the frame.

Nafaath and Wasler are also very consistent types but I am willing to overlook as to my eye there form has not worked out as well as the selections. Both need to be respected however.

Snowed In (E/W if 4/1+)

16:45 Navan

Heathfield is the likely favourite  for a handicap chase back at Navan and has the most outstanding choice for this race, he finished second to a well handicapped horse last time out. This step up in trip should be right up his street and Paul Townend booked should be primed to go very close. Last time at Leopardstown he was badly inconvenienced by getting a whip in the face. He is unexposed and has much more potential than a few of these.

Gallant Tipp is by far the most interesting alternative with some good novice hurdle and chase form, however he looks very one paced and while the step will suit he usually finds one too good and should be a similar story here. Ravished looked like he had bags in hand when winning very well in Limerick over Christmas. However his yard and form have both tailed off since and he looks handicapped to his best

While an unoriginal selection in the market leader, he looks to be still a bit ahead of the handicapper and should take all the beating.

Heathfield (WIN)
