SUNDAY WEEKENDER

17:30 Doncaster After yesterday’s exploits from Doncaster as we saw the return of the turf flat racing to the UK we see the second of the two day weekend meeting from the Yorkshire based course. Although it may seem a very odd option to select a horse that’s running in a twenty plus runner field and with amateur jockey’s set to take the saddle but the Archie Watson trained Attain looks hard to ignore. He’s a massive price and isn’t well fancied by most punters but looking through the form book and there’s a few things worth mentioning. Although at the ripe old age of 10 he’s far below his highest winning mark and hails from a yard who’s grabbed a few winners in the past two weeks. A more encouraging 5th placed effort last time out when being partnered with today’s jockey Brodie Hampson who has been somewhat of a revelation this year. She’s a dual purpose jockey who has excelled on the flat over the winter bagging a victory for today’s trainer in the process. She seems a precocious talent who is now getting the bookings she has well and truly earned. It’s hard to gage wether or not a return to turf will be of benefit to Attain with most of his success coming on an artificial surface but a chance is taken on this outsider who, on his day, has shown enough in his career to be able to win a race of this nature. Crack amateur jockey Simon Walker should always be respected in races like this and climbs aboard short priced favourite Cristal Spirit. A winner on the all-weather last time out the horse looks to be in good form but a change of trainer and 6lb rise in weight may be enough to stop him from claiming back to back victories, especially in such a large field. The for year old may well come out on top but at such short odds he doesn’t represent much value. Looking through the rest of the line up and the likes of Master Grey also worth noting for those looking for an each way alternative. ATTAIN (WIN) – NAP 15:45 Doncaster – Willie John (WIN) *NB*
