SATURDAY WEEKENDER

13:05 Southwell A few of these are better known for their exploits on turf and have something to prove on this surface as such. Cordite is likely to be popular for his in-form yard and looks the one most likely to go ward early. A decent fourth at Chelmsford the last day would suggest his turn is close and the booking of De Sousa has to be considered a positive. Stable companion Pearl Nation has improved out of all recognition and is a major contender also, his fine record over the course entitles him to be favourite but he has shot up the weights and that is the concern. Highland Colori is a most frustrating individual and hasn’t won the amount of prizes his talent suggests he’s capable of. Often a type to find trouble he wouldn’t be one to put a massive amount of faith in but he did win his maiden here and he is probably the class horse of the race. Dubai Hills has rather lost his way of late but is dangerous if the mood takes and though Grey Mirage has a touch to find with Pearl Nation he is a regular in these events. Of the rest, Invoke and Westwood Hoe interesting at bigger odds but a chance will be taken on Highland Colori running into a place. Highland Colori ( EW if 9/2+ )

13:40 Southwell Even Stevens is hard to catch right nowadays but is more than capable at this sort of level and goes well on this track. With the plumb draw to work from today it would be most disappointing if he didn’t manage to put up a good showing and Luke Morris is a positive jockey booking. Shipyard is interesting given he improved and won some very nice races during the turf season, he’s related to winners here so connections are likely confident he’ll handle it. Keep It Dark has a career high mark to defy but was impressive enough when beating Even Stevens the last time, the 5lbs swing that rival enjoys today however could prove too much though. Dungannon, Come On Dave and Meadway are others with chances if on song. Even Stevens ( EW if 9/2+ )

14:15 Southwell This looks a good chance for the slightly wayward Incurs Four Faults to follow up his recent course and distance victory and the handicapper has given him every chance of doing so, with just a 3lbs penalty to overcome. A winner off higher marks on the turf Keith Dalgleish’s charge was fairly impressive in that aforementioned win here and a repeat may well be enough. Billy Bond is a big player when going through the form but hasn’t managed a win in 14 attempts and is trading too short for that reason, he must be feared but can only be respected. Quadriga is tough and will eventually go in but the biggest danger appears to be the top weighted Roger Thorpe. A winner here the last day he is another who looks to have been given every chance of following up by the handicapper, off a winning mark now he very nearly got the nod but his draw makes life very tough today though he still gets the main danger tag. Incurs Four Faults ( Win )
