RACE PREVIEWS & TIPS (WEDNESDAY)

15:10 Ascot The first of two Group 3 contests at Ascot today where eight runners look set to tackle a marathon two mile trip. Last years St. Leger winner Harbour Law aims to show racing fans winning the prestigious Group 1 wasn’t a fluke and he can continue to progress as a serious group race performer. This level of opposition looks to be the toughest he’s ever faced but don’t be surprised to see him come close. Another worth noting is last seasons Cesarewitch winner Sweet Selection. The booking of Silvestre De Sousa gives Hughie Morrisons five year old an extra boost but as with Harbour Law he’ll need to improve to contest this race but still has a lively chance. All this being said however I’m plumping for a horse who retains a 100% strike rate here at Ascot. Battersea seemed to be crying out for a step up in trip last season and moving up to two miles looks sure to suit. Roger Varian has bagged ten winners in the past fortnight and should have this seasoned group race performer primed and ready. BATTERSEA (WIN)
