It’s often known in the racing industry that unless a decent two year old has exceptional breeding or shows a tonne of ability in their first run they are likely to become handicappers down the line. With that in mind a horses first three runs may not always be a true indication as to a horses true potential with three runs needed before they can step foot into handicap company many wait for their moment to pounce. I’m hoping this is true of Fflur from the yard of Karl Burke. Trained up in Yorkshire it’s certainly a reasonable enough journey down to Leicester and I doubt they’ll be sending this bay filly down here without some form of chance. A sixth in her last race showed a vast improvement from what she’s shown previously and a step up to one mile looks a massive positive. A very tough race to decipher with very little form to go off but a chance is taken on this lightly raced youngster who’s been given a generous weight.
Norse Dancer may be another that’s been held back a little for a race of this nature so can’t be overlooked too easily however trainer Sylvester Kirk is struggling to find a winner and the yard aren’t up to the standard that they’re accustomed.
The biggest threat is posed by Mick Appleby’s Sesame. Another Yorkshire based runner who certainly wont be making the trip down for a jolly outing and with a handful of third placed finishes clearly shows she has some level of ability but having raced more often than most of today’s rivals she may be open to her less experienced competitors.
