RACE PREVIEW & TIPS (THURSDAY)

13:35 Newcastle

Finished 4th on debut when hampered slightly when closing in the final 100 yards. Of the 5 horses that finished behind him that day 3 have raced since, one finished 4th in a 13 runner listed race and another won in a big runner field next time out.

A step up to a mile is bound to help and trainer Richard Fahey has already landed 8 top 4 finishes in the first few days since racing has returned.

SPLINTER - NAP

17:05 Newcastle

Hasn’t shown much since an eye-catching 4th in the Stewards Sprint Handicap at Glorious Goodwood last year.

That being said however whenever he’s raced over today’s course and distance in this grade company or below he’s ended up with a 3rd placed effort and a win. Now around the same mark (1lb higher than the success and 1lb lower than when placed) he seems primed and ready for another good go and if he has similar ambitions of mixing it in some of the big turf handicaps, with this season being shortened, he just doesn’t have the time to bring his handicap mark up.
