RACE PREVIEW & TIPS (MONDAY)

14:40 Pontefract

Miss Sheridan doesn’t look to have much in her favour if you look at her last five results (26090) however if you delve a little deeper you see that all these runs came over a furlong shorter than she encounters today and two of them came on the all-weather. Her best runs have all come on turf and she tends to run better at this time of the year having won twice in April 2017, once over course and distance and once at Redcar, also over a mile. She would ideally prefer a sounder surface but looks too big a price considering her form over this trip and at the course.

Others to consider include Society Red whose stable has won this race in two of the last three years, Dawaaleeb who has won his last two and would be a danger if converting his all-weather form over to turf, while Pioneering notched a hat-trick of victories towards the back-end of last season but returns off an 8lbs higher mark with his stable struggling for winners.

American Life is best known for his efforts over hurdles but he has had a couple of spins on the flat and actually won this race in 2016. He should have a fitness edge over a number of today’s rivals having already raced with credit in a couple of hurdles races in recent months and is only 2lbs higher than the afore-mentioned victory.

Madam Lilibet has finished second in this race for the last two years and although is 5lbs worse off for today’s race her jockey claims 3lbs to reduce the burden somewhat and it would be no surprise to see another big run from the nine-year-old.

A final mention goes to Becky The Thatcher who races for a stable that have won this race four times in the last nine years and has Paul Hanagan in the saddle, a jockey with a decent record at the course.
