RACE PREVIEW & TIPS (FRIDAY)

16:35 Musselburgh

Undoubtedly a comment like this often comes back and bites you on the rear however despite the likelihood of jinxing myself this eight runner field looks to me to be a two a horse race.Although the chances of the likes of Jacob Black and Kupa River can’t be dismissed out of hand it’s a straight up pick between Star Shield and Our Charlie Brown. The David O’Meara trained top weight looks a likely improver who will be sure to build upon his recent disappointing return. With the cobwebs now dusted off expect a much improved effort this time around. Our Charlie Brown has a tick in the course and distance victory box and hails from a yard that are doing well of late. His course and distance form reads 1123434 and if you factor in good or firmer ground and in Class 5 races or lower that form turns into 113. With a drop in grade, ground expected to be on the quick side (which will suit) and a seasonal run already under his belt Our Charlie Brown could be primed to go close and beat David O’Meara’s charge with Jacob Black the most likely to finish best of the rest.

OUR CHARLIE BROWN (WIN) – NAP

20:10 Dundalk

We head over the Irish Sea to take in an evening race from Dundalk where our selection is set to lineup in the penultimate contest on the card.

A one mile handicap where top weight Wild Shot aims to make it four wins in a row. He loves it here at Dundalk with tonnes of course victories to his name but it’ll be hard for the five year old who is having to carry 10lbs more than he’s won with before and it looks as if the handicapper has put pay to his chances.

Unlike Dark Shot there’s two in the field that look very well handicapped with Poetic Choice only burdened with 18lbs less than his biggest winning weight and Khabaray 16lbs less. Going off the ratings both have a great opportunity and I couldn’t put punters off either running well but it’s Khabaray I favour more. At the age of six the horse has less mileage and the trainer has turned out a winner in recent weeks. The horse’s form over today’s course and distance in handicaps reads 3418 which is pretty eye-catching. All four previous course and distance outings have been with more weight on his back and with the more than capable Declan McDonagh booked for the ride his chances become more obvious.
