PADDOCKS PATENT (TUESDAY)

13:25 Southwell

Both Leicester and Wetherby are due inspections this morning and due to bad weather all over the country one of these may be called off so we will stick with the races at Southwell today.

Red Unico didn’t look anything special in his first three runs of his career but was flying home over course and distance last week, he will relish this extra furlong today and if he continues to progress the way he looks to be going he looks the one to beat today.

Magic express has been raised thirteen pounds for her win here last month and even though she beat some very smart horses on that occasion she may find the rise in the weights just beyond her to take this today.

Dubawi Diamond is the obvious danger to Red Unico as he can run off the same mark as when he finished third over course and distance two weeks ago; he is fitted with first time blinkers and it looks to me that it’ll be these to battling it out for the win in the final stages and I think Dubawi Diamond may just nick it.

Our second preview of the day looks a very wide open affair with Zac Brown and Scarborough looking the two early favourites. Zac Brown who is my selection destroyed the field on his latest start pulling away from everyone in the final furlong to win by over three lengths, he may be making his debut on this track today but he looks like the one to beat even though he has been raised six pounds. Scarborough has also been raised six pounds for her comfortable win over course and distance last week and she obviously loves it around here as she has now won three times over course and distance and looks the real danger to my selection.

Perfect Pasture will probably relish the drop back to this trip and is only four pounds higher from his last win this time last year and maybe one to keep an eye on if money comes for him in the market.

This race also looks a wide open affair with a few of these coming here winning last time out. Both Michael Appleby’s horses The Locker Master and Luv U Whatever raced against each other on New Year’s Day with the latter winning by over four lengths but the former looks better treated here today and should reverse that form but there are a couple here that look stronger.

Deuce Again can’t be ignored after winning a maiden race here at the beginning of the month and looks to be on a very lenient mark making her handicap debut.

The two that stand out to me are Reve De Nuit and Saptapadi, the former and my selection has won three times over course and distance in the past and has placed more than once also; he seems to produce his best around here and with such a good early price of 8/1 he looks very tempting. The latter has come down the weights at a rate of knots and it shouldn’t be much longer before he finally shows what he showed at the beginning of his career and is also tempting at such a high price.
