PADDOCKS PATENT (FRIDAY)

13:45 Sandown

This looks very interesting and the presence of Gerald Mosse aboard the Charlie Hills trained newcomer Hilario, is bound to grab the punters attention. Related to the High class Deacon Blue ( Group 2 winner ) this son of Sepoy fetched £160,000 as a yearling and has bags of speed in his pedigree. From a yard going well it wouldn’t cause much of a stir if he proved good enough at the first time of asking and as Mosse is over for the ride, he is taken to prove up to the task. Apamurra was sent off 11/8 on her debut but probably bumped into one and is easily the best of the two that have had a run. Drawn in the 2 box today she is entitled to go close but lacks the pedigree of a few of these and is worth taking on if too short. Brian Meehan isn’t noted for having winners first time up but he has had one recently and his Mutawakked is well bred, market confidence should be noted but there will be easier tasks than this. Somebody To Love has an appealing pedigree and hails from a yard known for their prowess with two year olds, part owned by Coolmore it will be very interesting to see how she goes under Moore but the draw has been most unkind.

David O’Meara hasn’t been the most consistent trainer to follow this season and his record at the John Smiths meeting here earlier in the season proved to be a disappointing washout. Represented by two in this it could well pay to side with Dundunah, related to a few American winners she makes plenty of appeal first time up and is the most expensive purchase in this line up. Precious Skye is the other O’Meara runner but she looks likely to do better over further, either way with the yards 6-20 strike rate with newcomers both command a lot of respect. Computable sets a fair standard for the newcomers to aim at and is the one to beat, he does lack the scope of a few of these however and his price probably wont offer much value. Used To Be and Franco Florio hail from yards who know how to get them ready 1st time up but a chance will be taken on Dundunah proving why she was such a costly purchase.

High class hurdler Sign Of A Victory was very heavily backed when appearing on the flat over 1m4f at Ascot last month and many will expect compensation after a most frustrating run that day. Apparently cantering at the back he could never really land a blow when it mattered and todays extra yardage will almost certainly suit. Spencer will have to be more alert today than that last run but one would expect Nicky Henderson has something in his sights for this fellow and a strong vote is handed in his direction today. Rite To Reign appeared outpaced before finishing strongly and taking 3rd place here over 2miles, this drop in trip looks unlikely to suit but he has to be respected and is entitled to improve for that last effort. Shrewd and Two Jabs are well worth there place in this line up and deserve respecting though like the rest of them, none have the potential of the Henderson challenger and as such, no chances will be taken.
