17:50 Epsom Course winners always merit the upmost respect when returning here and although likely favourite and course winner, Make It Up flopped very badly at Newmarket when last seen, he has to be seriously respected as his yard tend to do well here. Impressive enough when winning here on debut he progressed nicely and interestingly he went in again at Goodwood. The flop at Newmarket is an obvious worry if he was very shorn the betting but his overall profile makes him a very strong contender in this and his apparent liking for specialist tracks is enough for him to be handed the vote. Al Bandar is very interesting and his recent form has been strongly franked, he ought to go very close if running to his best but the drop in trip looks a little puzzling to me, given he looked rather one paced over a mile last time. Goring is progressing nicely and deserves a mention, a comment that also applies to Ticks The Boxes. Make It Up (WIN)

18:10 Goodwood Although they sometimes receive grief from disgruntled punters, amateur races are an important part of racing and although I’d usually advise its best to leave them alone, today we shall break with tradition despite this looking very tricky. Byrd In Hand has won here over a mile and despite having to prove his stamina, he has strongly hinted that he’d last home in a few recent runs. A never dangerous forth at Wolverhampton last time, he has plenty enough to prove but is trading at a big price as this is written and he could have the race run to suit. Commisar is very interesting for Simon Walker, if he were to be strong in the market his chance would be very seriously respected, either way he still has sound place claims. Trader Jack broke a long losing run the last day and is respected despite being penalised, the percentage call would be to oppose for win purposes however and he has ten on for that. Glennten has been in cracking form and could well play a hand here, his last three wins have come at Brighton though so it could be he reserves his best for that venue. Swift Cedar won at Guernsey and followed that up with victory at Haydock last time, he escapes a penalty for that success and although we have taken him on, he is likely the one to beat. Byrd In Hand (E/W)

19:50 Goodwood My Call was heavily supported when thrashing an average bunch on debut at Pontefract last month and is impossible to oppose attempting to double up in this, despite it looking a much deeper race. The placed horses in that debut run were rated in the seventies and although unwise to get carried away with the literal reading of the victory, she visibly had plenty left in the tank and should improve for that experience. Barbs Princess has won here and knows how to win, she has a few bit and pieces of form to recommend and although Tohfa keeps climbing up the weights, she has a fair shout again. Caius College Girl won nicely when last seen but has since changed yards, it will be interesting to see how she goes in the betting but it would be most disappointing if anything could deny My Call. My Call (WIN)
