PADDOCKS PATENT (FRIDAY)

13:40 Catterick There is some tough action to pick a definitive winner over the jumps today but we will plough on regardless and hope to pick a winner. Heading to Catterick first sees us look at the 1:40 juvenile hurdle at the class 4 grade. One that just piques my interest is the bang in form combination of Jason Maguire and Donald McCain. They run Frederic here and after an impressive performance from another of the owner’s French imports around Towcester yesterday I am going to select this one run, one winner (at this track) gelding to continue on the winning streak. I must admit that the ground is a touch of concern in juvenile company as you’re unsure of how they will go but I expect that the run of Assirem may be matched here. The others could all be anything really but the main danger comes in the form of Lil Rockerfeller, and let’s hope he’s not in the money. Frederic (E/W iF 5/1+)

14:45 Catterick We stay at the north Yorkshire track for our second selection of the day and with the only course and distance winner on show in Definitely Red. Whilst there has naturally been a hike in the weights for his latest success there could be plenty of progression with this horse. 3 wins from the last 5 starts including around here, Newcastle and Cheltenham shows the form is in the bag. Naturally the ground is the slight concern but he should take all the beating. There have been some top jockeys sat on this horse and now Danny Cook gets his chance aboard the Brian Ellison trained bay and I feel he will take all the stopping. River Bollin and Red Spinner need respecting with the latter having the in-form team mentioned above taking their chance and with River Bollin’s breeding looking favourable for the ground, but I will back the selection to get home in front. Definitely Red (WIN)

16:05 Chepstow The Welsh track runs a class 4 handicap chase where our 3rd selection is involved. AP McCoy is often over-bet but you cannot dispute the quality of the champ and his relentless desire to get horses’ heads in front. He is in partnership with Favoured Nation for the usual team and the form of the horse is the immediate thing that takes the eye. 2 wins from his last 5 runs is certainly something to take note of. Although there are two other course and distance winners in the field, JonJo O’Neill’s team have just started to creep into form. There isn’t a festival coming up soon is there? Favoured Nation (WIN)
