SATURDAY WEEKENDER

12:20 Lingfield Away from the live action we head to Lingfield for today’s selections and we kick off in the six furlong maiden at 12:20. Certain to be popular with punters is the Charlie Appleby trained Magical Effect. Beaten less than a length on debut at Wolverhampton he didn’t have the best of starts and after being ridden to make his challenge a furlong out, the lost ground at the start looked to cost him the win. He is likely to start at a short price and for that reason although he looks to bring the best form into the race, we look elsewhere for our first selection. I am siding for the Roger Varian trained Rashash. Last on his first start he ran very green and was never really in the race. He’s been given time to strengthen up and returns to the track after over 200 days. Jack Mitchell is a very capable jockey and rides the track well. The Trainer has a excellent strike rate at Lingfield operating at 18%. When sending his 3 year olds to the course that percentage increases to over 20%. Rashash looks the type to improve as a 3 year old and could get the better of Magical Effect here. Twin Turbo could be the surprise here and if allowed to lead could prove hard to pass. Rashash (E/W)

13:30 Lingfield Our next selection runs in the 13:30. A handicap ran over six furlongs. Lujeanie has won off marks much higher than todays in recent times. He ran to close to the pace last time when seemingly lit up by the switch to a visor. If jockey Shane Kelly can settle him better and hold him of the pace he will surely be a big threat to his rivals. He ran far too keenly last time here and although he has won when racing prominently, the majority of his winning efforts have come when being held up. I am happy to put a line through the last run and judge the Peter Crate trained gelding on his previous efforts of this sort of weight. He doesn’t often find too much off the bridle so the later he is able to make his challenge the better and is the afternoon’s second selection. Black Vale has the assistance of Adam Kirby and with the tongue tie back on, as when running well throughout last year, he will be one to watch out for in the market. He is back down to a competitive mark and if the betting indicates market confidence he could be the danger to the selection Tidal’s Baby is another whom market support would be noteworthy. Back down to a winning mark an improved performance would be no surprise. Lujeanie (WIN)

14:05 Lingfield The final selection runs in the 14:05, a Class 3 Handicap ran over a mile and two furlongs. Wrood is the pick here. Getting up to force a dead heat when contesting this class over course and distance last time. He had to switch for a run there and with a clearer passage would have been the clear winner. His owner has a Fine record at the course and with an improving profile he should be able to get his head in front inside the final furlong. His rivals have to prove the trip is suitable and with Wrood having already done that it is hard to see him finish out of the first three here. Gold Quest looked unlucky last time but has to prove he handles the surface. He drops in class here and if able to dictate from the front under Adam Kirby he could make it difficult for the closers. Spiritual Star could benefit for the extra distance here. He looked like a certain stayer when running at Wolverhampton last autumn. He could easily be in the placing’s here and market support would be significant. Wrood (E/W)
