PADDOCKS PATENT (WEDNESDAY)

14:50 Lingfield Three course and distance winners participate in this and they may turn out to be the three to concentrate on, in what looks a pretty poor heat on paper. Cayuga landed last seasons renewal of this off a two pounds lower mark and seemingly reserves his best for this venue, his recent second behind an odds on shot over course and distance three weeks ago gives him every chance and he is handed the vote. Sheila’s Buddy is another whom likes the venue, he is closely matched the selection on his run last time but lacks the scope of that rival and is therefore passed over. Gworn is handicapped to go very close judged on earlier efforts and has run well here before, strength in the market would be encouraging for him but his chance is respected all the same. Cayuga (WIN)

16:35 Kempton The betting may well prove the way forward in this very modest race, there are a couple of intriguing sorts though and as usual for me, a speculative race and selection has to be given. Magic Ice fits the speculative bill nicely being a thirteen race maiden, he has shown some decent form in the past though and this seven furlong trip may be the key to him and his chances. John Berry’s charge managed to twice place off marks in the low 50’s last term and given he’s 45 now with a trip likely to suit, he is given the nod from his plumb looking stall (Drawn 1) With A Twist has shown virtually nothing in maidens so far, she is the sister of Mia’s Boy though and could do better now upped in trip and on handicap debut. Boboli Gardens was heavily backed in better company last time, in the event he rather disappointed but this is another drop in grade and his chance should be resected. Magic Ice (E/W if 5/1+)

19:10 Kempton The top weighted Seven Lucky Seven was backed as if defeat was out of the question at Wolverhampton last time on the back of a decent second here the time before. Michael Herrington’s charge rather fluffed his lines though as he missed the start before finishing a never nearer fifth, he does deserve to pick one of these up and is high on the list today, but has gone up a couple of pounds and may have to wait another day. New Rich did us a good turn when powering home from the back to nail the re-opposing Douneedahand late on, the runner up has a three pounds swing today and has every chance of reversing the form. Spowarticus also ran in the New Rich race last time but failed to last home having set a strong gallop, he has since run a smashing race at Wolverhampton but the feeling is he will once again set this up for a finisher. Moiety is hard to catch right but has won over todays course and distance and is another to respect, however the decision to book George Baker to ride New Rich for the first time seems a good one and he is taken to thread a passage late on and nail them. New Rich (E/W if 5/1+)
