PADDOCKS PATENT (FRIDAY)

13:10 Musselburgh

Our first selection comes in the 13:10 in a class 4 handicap at Musselburgh. Claude Carter has some decent form to his name and has some very good runs to his name at this track. The race could be a tight affair based on what is declared to run so far and the selection may be in his element on the ground. Whilst it is predicted to be soft the heavy wins may dry it to good/soft and if that is the case the perfect surface will be available. At 6/1 there is value in backing the horse each way and with the Whillans team in good form then I think a big run is expected. I would be most concerned about Brave Spartacus and the consistent Always tipsy with Stephen Mulqueen taking the 7 off but the selection should run a big race.

Claude Carter (E/W if 5/1+)

13:20 Lingfield

The all weather track provides us with our second choice and whilst it may be a bit of an obvious one, Sabre Rock is taken to bring up the four timer after her treble at course and distance was confirmed very impressively just 7 days ago. Coming off the pace Shirley Birkett timed things to perfection and an extremely facile victory was confirmed by 2 and a half lengths. The jockey retains the partnership and I fancy the horse to bring the 4 timer up. Brave Decision could well be the main danger in this race with the irrepressible Luke Morris doing the steering. The horse is a course and distance winner and won off this mark 13 days ago.

Sabre Rock (WIN)

15:20 Musselburgh

We stay in Scotland for our third choice which comes in another open affair. Once again there are a number of dangers to the selection but the form of Allez Cool on softer ground is the one that jumps out the most. The horse has ran very creditably on the last two occasions and was only been beaten by the heavy ground at Hexham where he plugged on at the one pace behind an absolute mudlark last time out. He was then subsequently only beaten by half a length after a slight mistake at the last when giving away 24lbs to the winner in another heavy ground contest at Wetherby. He seems to go well around a stiffer track and his stamina is undoubted. This field has fewer horses of quality in it and I can see the selection at least placing with the impressive Brian Hughes taking over in the saddle. Solway Sam and Snapping Turtle could be the dangers in this handicap but I back the selection to give another good showing and hopefully get his head in front.

Allez Cool (E/W if 5/1+)
