THURSDAY RACING TIPS

14:30 Nottingham

Gastronomy is well related, being a half sibling to some smart performers, including Molatham. He’s by Ulysses who is enjoying a decent start to his stud career. He was fifth of six runners on his debut at Newmarket. The form from that race isn’t bad and he wasn’t beaten by far, however, he was a tad disappointing and seemed one-paced in the latter stages. He might well improve and Roger Varian and David Egan are enjoying a good and consistent run but there’s a few too many questions.

Star Legend is a newcomer and is regally bred. By the great Galileo and a nice line of relations on his dam’s side. He cost a pretty penny, just under half a million, so comes with a bit of intrigue. William Haggas is enjoying a good season, as is Tom Marquand. His relations have a good record and he makes decent appeal. The big question is how he will fare on his debut.

Nigwa is a Sea The Stars filly and well related, with the majority of her relations excelling over a mile. Ed Bethell is a fine trainer and Andrea Atzeni is in flying form lately. She was slow away and ducked right, giving away a lot of lengths. She was very short of room on the run in and only went down by a neck, which is an eye-catching performance given it was her debut. She has a lot in her favour, notwithstanding her allowance, so she stands a very good chance

today.

NIGWA (WIN)

18:36 Sandown

An arguably low-key but yet competitive maiden, on paper, of which has thrown up two very good horses in recent years. Namely Westover, this year’s Irish Derby winner, and the 2018 champion two-year-old, Too Darn Hot. Juddmonte have a representative from the Gosden’s, with Frankie Dettori aboard. Arrest is decently bred and made a promising debut here over seven furlongs. He steps up to a mile today, which might benefit him. Given his connections and experience, he’s in with a shout.

Desert Order is one of the two Godolphin and Appleby representatives and is the chosen mount of William Buick. He was beaten two lengths on his debut but was quite unlucky when blowing the start and being shuffled around during the race. He also steps up to a mile and should handle Sandown. He is fancied, given his experience and connections, so it would be no surprise to see him build on his debut. Nevertheless, he still has to answer some questions.

High Honour is the second of the aforementioned Godolphin and Appleby duo. He cost just under a million as a yearling and is related to smart performer Eminent. He’s by Frankel and given his relations, a mile should be no problem for him. He might well be the supposed second string but he’s got a lot in his favour and despite the fact that anything can happen on debut, he could be taken to beat his stablemate.
