THURSDAY RACING TIPS

14:50 Yarmouth

Alif Power wasn’t brilliant on debut but improved for his second run, when he placed third beaten two lengths. He’s rather well bred and Roger Varian is operating at a nice strike rate lately. Additionally, he’s entered into a host of competitive two year-old races, later on in the year. He may well improve again but the there’s others today that could have a higher range of potential.

Princeville is the Godolphin hot-shot for the race today. As ever trained by Charlie Appleby and partnered by William Buick. He’s related to group winner and classy performer, Yalta, which stands him in good stead for a sprint race. He’s probably a justified favourite given all his positives. Nevertheless, anything can happen on a debut!

Lord Uhtred cost a pretty penny, over half a million euros and makes his debut today. He’s trained by Charlie Hills, who is in good form lately and ridden by the even more in-form Cieren Fallon. He’s very well related, being a half relative to Mecca’s Angel. Moreover, connections must rate him highly as he is entered into the National Stakes at the Curragh in September. Granted it is his debut but he’s a better price and has just as a good a chance as anyone.

LORD UHTRED (WIN) 18:28 Newbury

Seductive Power is winless in two starts but has improved for them. He kept on despite being green on his debut but was slightly disappointing when sent off favourite on his second start. Both of these have come at Newbury and over six furlongs. He’s the choice on the form lines but connections aren’t in fantastic form and the newcomers may have the measure of him today.

Buccabay is rather well bred and Saxon Warrior has made a decent start to his stud career. Eve Johnson-Houghton’s stable is in flying form and Charlie Bishop is in just as good form. Given his nice pedigree and the form of connections, he’s probably warranting favouritism. However, he is a short price and he has entries for the next couple of weeks. He could be opposable.

Chaldean makes his debut for Andrew Balding and David Probert today and has a lot in his favour. He’s very well related, being a Frankel half brother to five winners, including the classy Alkumait. You’d imagine he would be undeterred by the ground and the distance will be right up his street. He’s worth siding with over the favourite.
