PADDOCKS PATENT (TUESDAY)

13:30 Southwell We start our day’s previews here at Southwell with a division two handicap over seven furlongs. Interchoice Star looks the market favourite for this after producing a couple of good runs recently but that was over five furlongs, even though he does have some proven form over this distance he may find a few of these youngsters a little too quick for him today. The two horses that look to have more potential are Red Shadow and Little Choosey, the former has been placed in four out of his last five races but even then he has been quite a long way behind the winners, the latter and my selection was eighteen pounds higher at the start of the year and made a good start for her new yard last time out at Wolverhampton. She should relish the step up to this trip and with Eoin Walsh’s claim it should get her back to winning ways. Little Choosey (E/W)

14:00 Southwell We stay at Southwell for our second race. Uncle Brit won over course and distance two weeks ago by a neck but that was an amateur race and he has been raised four pounds for his troubles and may find this harder today. Sam Spade seems to produce his best for Southwell and has won three times over course and distance this year already, he looked like he needed his latest run here three weeks ago after a lay off and should be in the firing line once again today. Hail Promenader is another who should be in the firing line; he has also won over course and distance this year and with Joshua Browning’s seven pound claim he is now back to a winning mark if he can strip fit from his lay off. It’s hard to split Sam Spade and Hail Promenader but Sam Spade gets the tentative vote having a recent run under his belt. Sam Spade (E/W)

14:30 Southwell We end our day’s previews with an eight furlong nursery race. Offshore has been knocking on the door as of late finding only one too good on his last three outings; he has a slight penalty to deal with today but looks like he is going in the right direction and should be winning soon. Pyrocumulus looks the biggest threat here as he was flying home when winning last time out; he won by three lengths that day and looks like this extra furlong will be no trouble but he’s been raised nine pounds for this and that could be his downfall today. Excelling Oscar won here last month over seven furlongs but didn’t seem to cope with his penalty next time out; he should appreciate the step up in trip today and can get into the firing line once again under Hayley Turner. A few of these make their all-weather debuts and may be worth noting if money comes for them in the market. Excelling Oscar (E/W) if 5/1+
