WILLIAMS' CHARGE TO GRAB SEFTON SUCCESS

15:15 Aintree - Grand Sefton

With the history, the nostalgia and the memories surrounding this great course it’s fantastic to see the infamous Grand National fences earlier in the season and not just at its pinnacle in April. As always any race at this venue is very open and this years renewal of the Grand Sefton is no different.

The current market principles see the likes of Modus and Huntsman Son vying for favouritism with after both claimed victories in their most recent outings. Despite the duo of ten year olds winning last time out neither have ever tackled these unique jumps. Although they have obvious chances I’d rather have a horse who’s proven around this unique course.

A lot of people feel Might Bite will be able to roll back the clock and may have something left to offer now tackling these fences. Whether it's a case of heart ruling the head I'm not so sure however he did travel for most of the race over Cheltenham's Cross Country course which may suggest these bigger obstacles wont be a negative however at the age of eleven he's vulnerable to rivals with younger legs.

With form here so important the likes of Flying Angel, Touch Kick and Beau Bay all deserve upmost respect after going well in this race last year. However Touch Kick has to overcome a 302 day lay off and Flying Angel couldn’t complete their most recent race. Of the aforementioned trio I’d say Beau Bay holds the strongest chance however another horse that went well in the race last year is the one who gets my vote.

DIDERO VALLIS went well here at Aintree back in 2019 when claiming 5th spot and returns with less weight on his back this time around. The seven year old returned from a 330 day absence with a solid performance at Ascot last month and should come on plenty for that effort.

Some of his best form has seen him finish 5th in the 2019 Brown Advisory chase at the Cheltenham Festival and he's also finished second in a Grade 3 race at Wetherby.

Seems to have a touch of class and hails from a yard who know exactly how to claim success around this infamous course. Capable of adding to Venetia Williams’ Aintree success.
