Burrows Edge won the Lanzarote Hurdle, at Kempton, last year but was down the field in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham, the time after. He’s regularly scored over two miles and five furlongs and showed plenty of promise on his chasing debut, although he did fall. He hasn’t been on a racetrack since and thus has to overcome a lengthy absence. He’s probably better off watched today
Kiltealy Briggs showed plenty of promise over hurdles, most notably finishing third in a Grade Two at Cheltenham, and is equally as good over chase fences, although he is still yet to find the winner’s enclosure. He was narrowly denied, last time out at Aintree, in a competitive novice’s chase and was raised two pounds for his efforts. With connections in good form, you’d expect him to be in with a shout again.
I put Coconut Splash up as one of my five jump horses to follow for the season, with the pretence that he could be a well handicapped novice chaser. He’s never been out of the top three in his career, apart from falling on his second start, and he boasts very good form with dual Grade One scorer, Chantry House. He was given a nice ride by Adam Wedge, in a competitive race at Exeter, where he probably needed the run. Evan Williams and Adam Wedge have a good record at Haydock and combined with Coconut Splash’s upside, he should achieve his maiden victory, over the chase fences today.

Siskany is the class horse in the field for this race. He didn’t take to the ground at Newbury and before that, he dismantled a pretty good field at Newmarket. He’s placed at Goodwood and Royal Ascot, this year. He won on the surface last year, so he shouldn’t have any excuses if he was to be defeated today.
Fox Tal is refitted with his hood today and comes off the back of a nice fourth placed finish behind Coronation Cup victor, Pyledriver. Additionally, David Probert is one of the leading jockeys at Kempton and Andrew Balding are one of the leading trainers. However, Fox Tal is a tricky customer and hasn’t won in two years.
Alignak has switched stables from Sir Michael Stoute to Jamie Osborne and has his first run for the latter today. He’s only had two races this year, finishing a decent fourth at Chester and down the field at Ascot, in a Group Three. He’s won at Kempton before, on this surface and has no qualms about the distance and class. He’s a consistent performer who warrants interest for his new stable. He might well have each way claims against the big favourite.
