Shoal Bay goes into this race as favourite having been very unlucky to not win at Worcester last time out with the saddle slipping when almost certain of winning. Has gone up 6 pounds today despite not winning. Though the ground drying up would suit him as well but has to go into this as race as top weight.
Pink Eye Pedro has been consistently running well this summer without getting his head in front the step up to 3 mile is bound to suit him a lot more giving a lot of his victories have come from the 2 mile 5-furlong to 3 miles trips ran at 2 mile - 4-furlong last time out however the number of 2nds is concerning when you see a row of them on the form book.
Undersupervision is lightly raced makes chase debut today. Trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies usually has his horses fit and ready at this time for the start of the National Hunt Season proper. Forgot To Ask will be looking to bounce back
However, I take my chance on the mare in this race Outonpatrol for Alan King. receiving weight all round. Jockey Alexander Thorne Takes 5 pounds of Outonpatrol so she is very lightly weighted against the boys in this race. She has run the last couple of races with credit despite not winning. I think maybe is the time to catch her right and although Shoal Bay has to be respected given his liking to track and the ground.
I think Outonpatrol has a great chance in an opening looking race despite there only being 5 runners
OUTONPATROL (WIN)
17:05 Sedgefield
The last race at Sedgefield sees 5 of the 6 runners make there chase debut today. Naizagai has the cheekpieces fitted to see if this helps. however, unless chasing is the making of him it seems very hard to make a case for Naizagai to be involved. Crack Du Ninian a point to point winner a course and distance winner over hurdles here. could put up a good show today on chase debut.
Coppers Cross another point to point winner could be a useful chaser although the form over his hurdles exploits was better over further than todays trip
Jamacho is the favourite in today's race and is the only horse in here with Chase experience Albeit it wasn't the best race making a few mistakes on the last few fences in the race at Stratford
My selection is Raffles Gitane. Daryl Jacob only has two rides up Sedgefield. One of these is for his bosses (Munir and Souede) has fairly modest form over hurdles and was an ex French recruit. Has had a wind op recently so returns to the racecourse fresh from a wind op. Money has come in for Raffles Gitane which is a positive. Lightly raced in the UK and still only 4 years old I still think there is potentially more progression in Raffles Gitane compared to others in the race. Munir & Souede don't usually recruit bad horses so a win is due with Raffles Gitane and maybe chasing will be to Raffles Gitane
RAFFLES GITANE (WIN)
