Tony Carroll has a rather good record in this race, including the last renewal with De Vegas Kid, who he runs today. Subsequently, he carries top weight. He’s won over course and distance three times and is in decent form. However, he doesn’t have the best form on the ground and he has a horrendous draw. He would have to defy a lot to take the victory today.
Zulu Girl was all the range on her last start, when cantering clear of the field by 4 lengths. She was very below par the race before that, apparently “having no more to give”. On her last visit to Brighton, she defeated fellow competitor Dawn View whilst conceding loads of weight. However, this race seems harder and a 10 lbs rise doesn’t help matters.
Kayfast Warrior has won 5 of his last 6 races and is due to up another 7 lbs in the future. He escapes a penalty for his 6 lengths romp at Sandown. He has everything in his favour: the ground, the distance, the headgear, the draw and clearly, the handicap mark. He gains weight off the aforementioned two and then Kieran Schofield takes a further 5 lbs off. He would be rather fancied to reverse the form with Mercurius Power.
