FIVE TO COME ALIVE AT GOODWOOD

Roger Teal has a healthy 25% strike rate at Goodwood with 3 wins from his 12 runners over the past five years. However,when you look deeper you find that his three winners have all come this season from just 4 runners a 75% strike rate. He has just the one runner on the card this evening Blazeon Five in the 1823 race. Blazeon Five has a pedigree that is full of stamina, therefore it was no surprise that she found her only run to date over seven furlongs an inadequate test. That said however she did show plenty of promise for the future when finishing fourth at Salisbury. Today’s trip of one mile two furlongs will suit her much better and she can improve a bundle for her initial experience.

Country Pyle is the favourite as I write and looks interesting. A half sister to the stables high class Pyledriver. She looked inexperienced on her debut at Newbury six weeks ago where she finished second but looked to hang behind the winner that day. That run sets the standard and granted normal improvement should be a factor in the finish.

William Haggas newcomers are always worth a second glance and he runs a Golden Horn filly Bartzella who is ridden by the talented Tom Marquand. Haggas continues in fine form this year and has a 23% strike rate with his two-year-old’s. Bartzella is owned by the Openheim family, and they also have Stella Maris in the race trained by the Gosdens who themselves have two runner’s here with the Queen’s Well Spent being there other runner. There looks little in the market between these four with maybe Bartzella having the edge on her debut.

Country Pyle sets the standard here but Blazeon Five looked promising on debut over a trip that should prove well short of her optimum, she can improve for that run and for the significant step up in trip here. Her trainer Roger Teal has a 75% strike rate at Goodwood this year and that should be taken as a hint and Blazeon Five can enhance that record tonight.
