TV TIPS (THURSDAY)

13:50 Chester Brorocco put a string of four defeats behind him to pick up a valuable contest at Epsom. A four pound rise shouldn’t be insurmountable but being drawn in stall eight is going to be tough for Balding’s runner. Sir Michael Stoute is firing on all cylinders and does magnificently with his older horses. Four year old Khairaat has bags of potential and although he has a few questions to answer jumping out of stall one he can’t be ignored and is worth the risk to go very close. KHAIRAAT (WIN) – NAP

14:25 Chester There may only be six runners in this Group 3 contest but a case can be made for four of them. Deauville looks set to go off favourite after a promising second placed finish in The Gordon Richards Stakes. Hailing from the top yard of Ballydoyle he has to be given upmost respect but only one victory in his last ten outings doesn’t give you too much confidence. Folkswood and Royal Artillery have enough in their lockers to be right up there come the closing stages but Poets Word looks to be on an upward curve and should improve even more for his winning seasonal reappearance. 15:00 Chester This may look like a very tricky contest to figure out on paper but in all honesty I can only see two horses likely to claim victory. John Gosden’s Via Egnatia has been blessed with the plumb draw in stall one and hopes to build on his third placed finish. His front running tactics may be suited by Chester’s unique course and looks set to go well. Areen Heart went agonisingly close at Beverley when losing by just a short head. He hopes to go one better and looks to have the makeup to do so. Of the two aforementioned rivals I’m leaving it down to trainer stats to help come to my conclusion. With Gosden hitting a 35% strike rate and Fahey hitting just 12% I’m siding with Via Egnatia. VIA EGNATIA (WIN)

15:35 Chester The marquee race of the day sees eight take part in this Epsom Derby trial, the Chester Vase. A race that Aiden O’Brien has a fantastic record in and as he saddles 50% of the field he’s throwing all that he can at the race once again. His best chance, judged on jockey bookings, is the mount of Ryan Moore, Venice Beach. He put in a great performance to win at Tipperary last time out and unlike most of his rivals we know he’ll handle the trip. What he beat that day is up for debate and although I can’t see him finishing out of the top three I’m hoping for some value. Another horse that shook off his maiden tag last time out is Godolphin’s Tamleek. Since his victory a handful of weeks back four of his nine rivals that day have won since. The form of the race is starting to look very good indeed and although he’ll need to improve once again if you can get 9/2 or bigger he looks a fantastic each way shout. Of the rest you can’t ignore Cunco who won a Group 3 at Sandown. Although he won well enough I wasn’t convinced he is crying out for a mile and a half and minor money is probably the best he can hope for today. TAMLEEK (E/W)
