14:50 Chepstow – Welsh Grand National
We had the giant Grade 1 King George yesterday but this afternoon we’re greated with a completely different race all together. The Welsh National is steeped in history and has had some illustrious winners in the past.
When trying to decipher the winner there’s a few things you need to ensure your horse has.
Looking through race trends and it’s key to find a horse who’s under the age of 10, Carrying anything higher than 11st 4lbs is too much of a burden and most finished 4th or better in their last run.
Another huge positive is if a horse has won over a distance higher than 3 miles.
Using the above criteria leaves a shortlist of four in the form of Vintage Clouds, Vieux Lion Rouge, Rons Dream and Looksnowtlikebrian.
Vieux Lion Rouge is ultra consistent but tends to go better at Aintree.
Looksnowtlikebrian has won 4 of his last 5 runs and is a course victor. He’s clearly effective here at Chepstow with a win and a place from three runs at this venue. He has a great chance but may need to step up on his best to date.
The two that are left, Vintage Clouds and Ron’s Dream look worth punting. Vintage Clouds has been doing really well in these sorts of races and is a red hot fancy for the big one in Aintree in April.
Ron’s Dream represents the Welsh yard of Peter Bowen and is likely to have been laid out for this race. Both look to have grey chances at each way prices.
