TV TIPS (THURSDAY)

14:20 York Kicking off day two of York’s May meeting sees an opening cavalry charge over the minimum trip. Seventeen should head to post and it’s a tricky puzzle to decipher. Duke Of Firenze won this race last season and put in a noteworthy effort at Chester last time but having to contend with top weight looks a huge task. Charlie Hills does well with his runners here and the unexposed Love On The Rocks has bags of potential but this rain softened ground isn’t sure to be of benefit. At bigger prices both Move In Time and Poyle Vinnie could do much better than their prices may suggest and certainly have enough to find place money. The one that gets the nod may have only won once in twenty four outings but with three runs on softer ground producing a win and a place he should handle conditions and with one attempt over today’s course and distance producing a second placed finish in a nineteen runner field there’s plenty of positives about Gamesome. 14:55 York The first of two Group 2 contests scheduled for ITV this afternoon sees top class filly So Mi Dar lead the line. By far the best horse in the race she deserves her place as favourite. A course and distance winner who’s won on soft going she has everything going and looks the one to beat. I must confess if there were eight or more runners Henry Candy’s Chain Of Daisies would’ve gotten the nod as a fantastic each way shout but with only the two places on offer and coming up against such a warm favourite it makes things from a betting point of view much trickier and although the likes of Queens Trust and Smart Call deserve respect I can’t see past the favourite. SO MI DAR (WIN)

15:30 York Representing the connections of former Derby winner Golden Horn, Gosden and co head into battle with the unbeaten Cracksman. Sired by the legend Frankel he has everything on his side but he struggled to claim victory in what looks a much weaker contest in his last run. Although I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come out on top I’m looking elsewhere for value. This may seem like a “mad” choice to some but the horse situated at the bottom of the race card may be able to sneak a place. Wolf Country has the benefit of a recent run when winning a hotly contested listed race in France. He acts on softer going and a drop back to ten furlongs should be no disadvantage. He was bought for over 700,000 Guineas and has the attributes to do far greater than his current double figure price suggests. WOLF COUNTRY (E/W)

16:05 York Chelsea Lad and Thikriyaat look set to be vying for favouritism and both look worthy of such a spot however both had recent health concerns so back at your own risk. At bigger prices Get Knotted, Can’t Change It, Murad Khan and Glory Awaits made the shortlist for various reasons and all have enough to trouble the main protagonists. Despite not being the force of old Glory Awaits will relish the soft ground, has a very tasty handicap mark and will benefit for fitness with a recent run and if he retains anything like his best will put in a big effort.
