TV TIPS (SATURDAY)

Only the one worth backing in sprint.

15:35 NEWBURY – SUPER SPRINT

First run in 1991 the Weatherbys Super Sprint is something of a unique race, with weights distributed according to how much the horses fetched at public auctions. Devised by Lord Carvarnon and Richard Hannon Snr the race is open to both colts and fillies, with the winners purse being worth more than £120,000 this is about as competitive a two year old race as you will see all season.

Richard Fahey has trained three of the last five winners of this, often mob handed in the race it is difficult to coherently separate the chances of his six strong challenge today though Red Balloons appears to be the yards best hope on jockey bookings.

Richard Hannon landed the 2014 running of this and is renowned for his prowess with two year olds. Represented by It’s The Only Way today you suspect this has always been on the agenda. Strongly fancied when making a winning debut at Brighton, he followed up impressively at Kempton the time after and though he has disappointed a couple of times after, he did show much more when second at Salisbury last time.

Kinks was only beaten a couple of lengths when contesting the Norfolk stakes at Royal Ascot last month, Mick Channon has his string in fine form and a reproduction of that effort here would give his charge a fine chance of landing the spoils.

Little Kim has probably achieved the most of any of these and arrives here on the back of a comfortable success at Deauville last time in a Group3, she really ought to go off favourite here, however, the one time she encountered good to firm ground was at Ascot where she failed to pick up.

Of those towards the bottom of the weights Cookupastorm and Society Queen make most appeal, both have plenty to find in terms of form although both arrive here on the back of victories last time and both have had only two starts.

Tin Hat has been an interesting market mover for this in the build up, from a yard absolutely thriving at present his run at Royal Ascot reads well in the context of this and he has a handy draw to work from. The rest are impossible to dismiss so a small, perhaps speculative each way punt is taken on It’s The Only Way whom appears to be well drawn and is from a yard who know how to land this race.
