13:50 Newbury We start our today’s TV Tips with a 2Yo Group 3 race over seven furlongs. Richard Hannon has won this race four times in the past and enters two from his stable in this today with Lexington Times the more likely to start as favourite, he won on soft ground back in July but has seemed to have lost his way since then. The biggest danger and my selection looks to be Not So Sleepy; he didn’t seem to start his maiden race very well but he completely destroyed the field with a furlong to go and was eased down in the closing stages; stepping him up to group company looks a positive approach and the ground shouldn’t be an issue as he won on heavy ground on his first and only start and looks one for the future. 14:10 Doncaster Portamento will probably start off favourite here; he is currently chasing his hat-trick after two good wins in lesser company then this and stepping up to this grade for the first time he may find this a lot tougher than he is use too. Salt Island made a winning début at Windsor back in August; but he still looks green and is another with good form who may struggle. The one that looks to be on is Growl, he was unlucky not to win last time out but he came up against a very strong opposition that day; he has to be respected on that form and if reproducing that today he should be able to take this with minimum fuss Growl (WIN)
14:00 Aintree Our second race is a 4Yo+ handicap hurdle. Nick Scholfield won this race last year and looks to be on the favourite again today. Katgary was in fine form over in France as a juvenile and was only just beaten when first seen over here in a huge field; he’s a versatile horse when it comes to the going so today’s ground won’t bother him too much. Wadswick Court is a lightly raced six year old but has won four of his seven races and looks to get better as time goes on; he should be in with a shot of the places here today. Hawk High is the biggest danger here as he beat Katgary back in March by just under a length but the latter comes here on better terms today and can reverse that form. Katgary (WIN)
14:20 Newbury Our next race from Newbury we see another Group three race but this time over twelve furlongs. Sky Hunter will probably go off favourite here today after he beat some smart horse’s last time out after a four month break, he is only having his fourth race to date in England and looks like he’s progressing in the right direction and has to be the one to beat today. Red Galileo and Glorious Protector are the other two that stand out above the rest. The former looks to have been given a small chance today after finishing second in his last two starts; he should be there or thereabouts again today and has creditable E/W claims. The latter was seeking a hat-trick last time out where he came up against some very strong competitors; he is better than what he showed on his latest outing and is another with E/W claims. 14:40 Doncaster This 3Yo+ handicap looks a wide open affair. Quite a few of these come here with some good form this season. Ruwasi has only been out of the places once in 2014 and finished a creditable third last time out but this looks his toughest task yet and may find a few of these too strong today. Knife Point has been knocking at the door since winning back in August and finished fourth out of twenty four at Newmarket two weeks ago; he should produce another good run here again today. Forgotten Hero only found one too good over course and distance back in September and can be forgiven for his last race in a huge field where he didn’t seem to get any room in the running. He looks to be a big danger here and what looks like a big price for him today is worth taking on. Forgotten Hero (E/W)
15:00 Aintree Conquisto won this race twelve months ago from a four pound higher mark but has not shown anything near that type of form since, and with that in mind it may be worth looking elsewhere. The youngster of the race Uxizandre won over course and distance when last seen in April where he beat some big names on that day; he’s been raised five pounds for this today but he should be able to shrug that off and go in again today. The biggest dangers look to come from Mister Moonshine and Rajdhani Express. The latter finished a respectable third back April in the Ryanair Chase where he kept on with the leaders for most of the race but seemed to lose his footing on the last jump which may have just unsettled him; he should give another good account today. The former has been tried at a number of distances over the years but looks more suited to this trip, he probably found his latest outing a bit too far but may have needed that run to blow away the cobwebs and should make his presence felt today. 15:15 Doncaster A huge field lines up for this five furlong handicap. Andrew Balding looks to make it two from two with Dungannon who won this last year; he seemed to fall away for a while before showing some promise of returning back to form on his latest two outings but he is now up to a mark where the handicapper seems to have a grip on him and may struggle again here today. Golden Steps is taking on this trip for the third time; he finished second on both of them occasions and looks like this trip will suit now with more experience in his armoury. Kickboxer is another who has been progressing well as of late and was unlucky not to find any room to get in front when last seen; he has a blistering turn of foot and if he can find the gap in the huge field today he can be in with a shout in the closing stages. B Fifty Two and Steps are not without a chance and seem to pop up from time to time in these big fields and can’t be dismissed. Golden Steps (E/W) Kickboxer (E/W)
15:30 Newbury Our penultimate race is a 3Yo+ handicap over ten furlongs. Richard Fahey won this last year and comes here again today with Hi There; he was in fine form this time last year and coming back to this trip looks like it will suit him today and with ground looking to be soft he’s one of the field that will appreciate the cut in the ground and can be competitive here. Ennistown is another who likes soft ground and he is only three pounds higher than when winning over this distance back in September where he got home late to show he’s progressing back to his best. Starwatch was seeking a four-timer last time out but didn’t seem to be able to cope in this type of company and is stepping up in class again today he may struggle again. Complicit looked a promising sort winning three times back in 2013 but hasn’t shown much since even though he won on his latest start that was in lesser company then this. Ennistown (WIN)
15:50 Doncaster We end the day with a Group one, one mile race for two year olds. Elm Park will probably go off favourite for this as he has won three out of four of his races and completed a hat-trick last month; he came from almost last to first on his latest win where he stayed on well to get on top; he’s been raised nine pounds for this today and even though he looks the one to beat on paper I believe the rise in the weights will play a factor in this. The main dangers look to be Jacobean and Celestial Path. The former cost 170,000 guineas as a yearling and showed a lot of promise when finishing second on his only race to date; Aiden O’Brien knows how to train these progressive horses the right way and Jacobean looks a type to progress again. The latter has an amazing turn of foot and looks to be getting better and better with every race; he still looks very green in the running but as soon as he is asked to produce he does and can go in again today to keep his unbeaten record.
