TV TIPS (FRIDAY) DONCASTER ST LEGER MEETING DAY 3

13:55 Doncaster

We start day three of the St Ledger meeting with a Group 2 over five furlongs.

Richard Hannon has won this race four times in the past ten years and enters two in this today to try and make it two years in a row. Gutaifan definitely looks the better of the two as he finished second in a Group 1 last time out and has proven a couple of times he’s a force to be reckoned with over this distance.

The other Hannon runner Log Out Island may not have the credentials as Gutaifan and is not here to just make up the numbers either; he has a very good turn of foot and if left to run his race he could be the one flying home so worth a place claim.

Bear Cheek comes here seeking a hat-trick after a great win in a Group 3 at the Curragh three weeks ago where she had Independence Day behind and even though the latter is on a better mark today I can’t see him reversing that form.

Ornate is another that could be dangerous if being able to reproduce his Ripon run back in July.

Our second preview looks a wide open affair over a mile and six furlongs.

Battersea and Not Never look the two early favourites in this, even though the latter was beaten by a head to Polarisation last time out, but he’s now a lot better off in the weights this time around and could turn things around. The former is only having his third run of the year and needs to improve if he wants to take this today.

It should be another close run between Pressure Point and Future Empire once again with Pressure Point just getting the better last time out and with both having gone up in the weights I think that form may just stay the same today.

Royal Signaller was seeking a hat-trick but tired in the final furlong over a shorter trip than this but he’s won over course and distance in the past and could still be very dangerous.

The top weight and eldest horse in the field Forgotten Voice is another worth noting as he had the beating of Battersea at Goodwood back in July and has proven for a long time now he’s a stayer over this trip.

Our punatilmate race of the day is a Group 2 over eighteen furlongs.

Times Up won this race in 2012, 2013 and then finished eight in this last year; he’s not done much to warrent a likely return to his past form but he can never be ruled out.

Clondaw Warrior looks the better of the two Mullins horses and even though he didn’t produce in the Ebor when sent off joint favourite three weeks ago he steps back up to a distance that suits and should make his presence felt.

Suegioo  and Fun Mac are probably simular on paper  but the former has been close in some very big fields this year and looks a very strong stayer so this trip looks to suit, the latter was beaten by Clondaw Warrior last time out and it could just be the same here again today.

Taws is another proven stayer having finished second twice over further than this this year and she is another that can’t be ignored  especially with her power she produces late on in a race and could be slightly overpriced here.

We finish day three’s coverage of the St Ledger meeting with a fillies Group 2 over a mile.

Godolphin has had great success in this race over the past five years winning four out of the five races, they seek their fifth win with the impressive Pure Diamond who destroyed the field at Kempton three weeks ago and if finding that form on the turf could be a real handful.

Hawksmoor seems to get herself boxed in during races but showed what a good turn of foot she had when just getting up at Goodwood two weeks ago. She looks a very progressive type and if staying out of trouble could easily land this today.

Gypsy Eyes could be anything after her win where she made all at Newmarket last month; she stayed on well in the final furlong so this step up in trip shouldn’t be an issue.

Marenko has held her own in Group 3 races as of late and has had the beating of Hawksmoor but I think the latter may reverse that here today but it should be a close run affair.
