A competitive looking two and a half mile handicap hurdle.
Lignou is a horse that could run well at a price. This Irish import has had two runs this season for his new connections and they came in much better races than this.
He has been dropped a useful looking ten pounds already and he’s one to keep an eye on.
Bigbadmattie is a progressive type. He appears to have taken a while to come to hand, but it certainly looks like it’s been worth the wait. Only five runs to date thus far, but has done little wrong. This is a deeper race than he has contested so far, however he certainly could be on the upgrade.
The selection though is Lord Of Kerak. He made a very promising start to his hurdling career, but was then very disappointing in his final start in April. He has had a wind op however during the summer so that may have been the reason for that lacklustre display at Perth.
It’s a little surprising that connections haven’t gone novice chasing with this big scopey animal, but he is the one horse in this race that could still develop into a classy individual.

Plenty of exposed handicap chasers go to post for this three miler.
Top weight Judge Et Parti is probably the least exposed of the lot and is in good form currently. He is still feasibly weighted and there’s no reason to suspect he won’t go close.
Irish raider Shanroe Al C has a decent record when he ventures across the sea. A course and distance winner just over a month ago, he is another with an obvious looking chance.
However a chance is being taken with Bob Mahler, who could be a bit of value. It would be easy to think Bob Mahler would be entering the veteran stage of his career, but he’s only rising ten. There’s no doubt he’s more in and out these days, but he has run well after some average performances and because of his inconsistency he has become attractively handicapped.
Henry Brooke is an interesting jockey booking. He is very positive rider and if he can cajole Bob Mahler into putting his best foot forward, he may be hard to catch.
