THURSDAY RACING TIPS

13:05 Exeter

Birds Of Prey hasn’t been seen since notching the second of two all-weather victories in March 2020 and both prior hurdles victories, both gained in 2019, came on better ground than he is likely to encounter today. After such a lengthy layoff he’s entitled to come on for this run and as such won’t be carrying my coin today.

Guernsey posted his sole career win over track and trip in October and hasn’t been beaten far in three subsequent runs however is another who has so far shown best form on a faster surface, while Investment Manager should relish conditions but may not be suited by the drop in trip given his best result to date was a strong staying performance when winning over three furlongs further than todays’ trip at Newcastle in October.

Lurking at the foot of the weights and now looking extremely well handicapped is the winner of the last four renewals of this race - Trans Express. He’s been well beaten in all four runs in 2021 and it could be that eleven years of age he isn’t the force of old, however given his record here at Exeter and with conditions right up his street he gets the nod in the hope that a return to a race he knows so well helps spark a revival.

A fascinating five runner affair, with Maskada bringing encouraging chase form in to the race and both Pure Bliss and Galice Macalo promising to be suited by the switch to larger obstacles. The former was only a couple of lengths behind The Glancing Queen in a Listed contest at Bangor last month and that race has already produced three further winners, while local trainer Harry Fry boasts an excellent record with his chasers here and won this race last season so has every reason to be confident about his runner Pure Bliss given she won three from four over hurdles and has an excellent record fresh.

All that said, I am quite excited to see Galice Macalo getting a chance over fences. A three time winner over smaller obstacles and considered good enough to contest a number of Graded races including last season’s Tolworth, she brings untapped potential to the table and looks to have a solid chance of making her chase debut a winning one.
