A new era begins at Picksfromthepaddock this week, where we start to broadcast racing tips direct from South Africa. All you South African racing fans, the wait is over as we now are going to boast some of the feature cards from that part of the world. We would like to start with pointers from the main centres, where the makeup of their primary glut of racing comes from Vaal, Greyville, Kenilworth, Durbanville and Turffontein racecourses. These centres mainly host racing on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday’s. Today marks that new beginning where we point out our first tip from the Vaal racecourse.
Vaal – 11 October 2016
Race 8
A Handicap for horses rated 0-68, this extended sprint over 1200m (6f) sees 16 horses taking part with 2 reserves. The forecast betting makes this a wide open affair as the favourite is currently priced at 5/1.
5 – ASTRO has shown tremendous talent when starting his career off as a 3yr old. This gelding was rated 90 after his first win and now runs of a mark of 63. Clearly this horse has had some issues and the owners therefore have taken it slow with him. The recent change of scenery to a new trainer as well as the fitting of blinkers could do the trick. He loves the Vaal sprint track and that second place behind Hidden Agenda shows a speed figure of 116 and the second best time of the season over the course and distance, so with a lot of factors are in his favour in a moderate field where his drop in ratings, headgear on for the first time, good draw and favourite track, Clearly this should be enough for him to come home lonely at 14/1 on the early books.
