There is no doubt that Ehrmann's first attempt over the minimum trip was an impressive one, forging clear by almost four lengths at Southwell in March, however he failed to follow up at Wolves a few weeks later, despite going off at odds of 1/2. Neither race has proved to be particularly strong and his debut seventh on turf left a lot to be desired so I am keen to take him on at short odds here.
Duke Of Firenze is still going strong despite his advancing years, winning on the all-weather at Lingfield last month before a decent-enough third of six at Epsom two weeks later. He has gone twenty-five runs since his last victory on turf but now dropping in to a Class 4 he cannot be dismissed, yet with youth on his side preference is for Fashion Advice who won over course and distance on soft ground last summer and has put in two decent runs since returning to the turf at Musselburgh last month, winning one and beating a subsequent winners when fourth last time out. Given he made all in his course and distance victory last year, and that there appears to be no obvious front runner in the race, I am hoping that Callum Rodriquez can ping the gates and dictate his own pace before staying on for victory – however if he doesn't manage to bag the lead he is versatile enough to be able to sit in behind before making his move. His trainer has a good record at the course and has started the season in good form so I am hopeful of a bold show today.
