SUPER SUNDAY

With today being the day of new beginnings pundit Rory Paddock has taken a look through all the cards and pinpointed a "Super Heinz" (7 selections in a full cover bet) that he thinks has a solid chance of ending the week on a high.

13:20 Plumpton

Trainer Olly Murphy has plenty with chances today and there’s no doubt former course and distance winner African Dance is one of them however other stable residents make more appeal and with top trainer Nicky Henderson saddling just the two it’s hard to look pas Scarpia. He finally shook off his maiden tag at the sixth time of asking last time out and should improve upon that effort.

SCARPIA

13:56 Plumpton

It may not be the wisest decision siding with a horse who’s yet to win in ten career starts but I’m hoping a drop in trip will be the making of Lough Ryn. With Sam Twiston-Davies back in the saddle today may be the day he finally claims his first success.

LOUGH RYN

14:26 Plumpton

A flat recruit from the yard of Hugo Palmer who showed a decent standard of ability on the flat. Now residing at one of the best yards in the UK it’s going to be tough to beat him if he’s fit and ready on stable debut.

ZORAN

14:56 Plumpton

The Nick Williams yard are going well of late and are currently operating at a 20% strike rate. His nine year old One Of Us has hardly looked like threatening this term but now finds himself on a very attractive mark. It’s also interesting to note that the last time he won he was ridden by Jamie Moore who returns to the saddle. Manofthemoment looks to be a very tough competitor but I’m hoping the nine year old can finish in front.

ONE OF US

14:36 Southwell

Richard Kingscote has been very dominant on the all-weather and looks likely to add to his winning rides on board Tom Dascombe’s Robustly. One of only a few in the field who has the benefit of a recent run when fourth last time out. Seems to be on an upward curve and likely to lose his maiden status here.

ROBUSTLY

13:40 Market Rasen

As mentioned earlier trainer Olly Murphy has a whole host of horses with strong claims this afternoon and Fitzroy looks one of his more fancied runners. The bookmakers feel Royal Pretender looks the most likely winner but after what seems a tough campaign the fresher legs of Murphy’s charge make him more appealing and can topple Alan King’s current market principle.

FITZROY

15:00 Cork

Although we have some quality racing over at Firehouse my sole Irish selection comes in a competitive looking beginners chase. I’m happy to go against Port Stanley who seems to be somewhat of a proverbial bridesmaid. Rocket Lad looks likely to progress after his last run but may find one or two too good and as such it’s The Very Man who I feel can go better than his third placed finish at Leopardstown especially with the promising Jordan Gainford in the saddle who takes off a hefty 7lbs.

THE VERY MAN
