17:15 Yarmouth John Gosden is a trainer who’s won pretty much everything there is to win in racing so a Class 3 handicap is well within his capabilities. He saddles three year old Hyde Park who has bags of room for improvement. The horse was entered in a much more competitive race recently before being withdrawn. He’s been poor in his last two runs but a return to seven furlongs should suit like Baby Bears Porridge and be “just right”. His form over today’s trip reads one win and three placed efforts from five starts and looks worthy of a bet on one that may have slipped under the radar. Fellow three year olds Sultan Baybars and Firefright have just as much potential as our selection and may very well push Hyde Park close. It is worth noting that Yorkshire based trainer David O’Meara sends course and distance winner Mujassam all the way down to Yarmouth and looks the biggest danger to our selection. Never the less we’re siding with the Gosden runner to get back to winning ways now he returns to his optimum trip. HYDE PARK (WIN) – NAP
17:40 Goodwood Unfortunately for us punters we’ve been dealt a blow as top weight Fuji has been pulled out of the race leaving the dreaded fifteen runners. That only leaves places for those finishing in the first three but we won’t let that stop us from backing a horse we feel can go close. Trainer Charlie Hills saddled Cotai Glory to finish a credible third in the big Group 1 race yesterday and the trainers prowess with sprinters is well known. Within this five furlong contest he sends three year old The Big Short. The youngster has room to improve and after a promising third last time out should be primed and ready for a contest of this nature. Champion jockey Jim Crowley has ridden this horse twice before picking up a win and a place so clearly the horseman gets on with this gelding. Zipedeedodah and Flowing Clarets are consistent horses that could go well at much bigger prices and the ultra consistent Captain Ryan rarely runs a bad race but hasn’t won in a while.
