14:30 York The Cecil yard has been for many years a name to strike fear into the opposition and Lady Cecil looks to have yet another nice juvenile to take to York at a track where the yard has always enjoyed success. Disdain was a ready winner of a maiden over today’s trip before finding 1m5f a little too far this early in her career on only her third run. The three-year-old still looks a typically progressive type and will take all the beating on her return to 1m2f. The style of that commanding maiden win was impressive and she is the confident pick against some utterly exposed older rivals. The main danger might come from the Richard Fahey yard who are all conquering at the northern tracks and always command respect. Pamushana had a nice performance over course and distance in a handicap back in July and that will stand her in good stead in this one. Another northern raider who is always worth a second look is Jim Goldie and his runner Thorntoun Care looks favourably handicapped on the best of last season’s form and looks set to run a big race. 15:00 York An intriguing contest in prospect for this year’s renewal of the Betfred Garrowby Stakes Listed contest and there are a few contenders to consider. Paul Hanagan’s mount onboard Mubtaghaa for the all-conquering William Haggas and Hamdan Al Maktoum combination looks the stand out pick in the race. The horse show remarkable improvement when landing a high-profile race over course and distance last summer and despite a patchy profile since that, the horse got right back on track last time out with a gutsy display to land the spoils over six furlongs at Newmarket. The form of that race makes him a big player here and he will take a lot of stopping. One danger to the selection could come from the current leader in the race for the jockey’s title this season. Sylvestre De Sousa rides Divine for Mick Channon and the horse has caught the eye this term with solid wins at Windsor and then at Pontefract last time out with an unlucky run at Newbury in between. He looks like a big danger, but has a penalty to carry now and might be the one for the forecast. The final danger comes from across the water in the form of Irish Raider Fort Del Oro. The Ed Lynam trained filly won a maiden impressively at the Curragh before running a blinder in Group 3 company last time out and he is an unexposed type after only three runs. The decision to bring him to the UK for this one make him one to keep an eye on. Mubtaghaa (E/W)
17:00 Fontwell Not the most inspiring card at Fontwell, but this handicap looks one to dig out some value from. Warren Greatex runner Always Managing needed the help of the stewards to land the spoils last time out, but it would have won the race comfortably as it was staying on well if not for the interference of the disqualified Kentford Heiress in the closing stages. The Harry Redknapp owned mare looks one to keep on the right side and the former bumper race winner looks like he can take another step forward to land the prize once again at a tasty price. The main danger looks to be the predicted favourite Taradrewe from the Anthony Honeyball yard. The 8-year-old mare stepped up markedly on its reappearance run to win well at Worcester last time out under Aiden Coleman and with him in the saddle once again, he can cause problems for the selection. Another one to note would be Mighty Minnie from the Henry Daly yard. The leading jumps jockey Richard Johnson takes the mount and if she can leave behind her last run, back off a break and reproduce the form that saw her land a similar race last year on this ground then she can pose a danger to all.
