15:10 Cork
After yesterday’s fantastic exploits over the jumps we take in a race on the flat over at Cork where there’s a small handful in with a chance.
Probably the most well known in the lineup is Canary Row who’s been involved in some big handicaps over the years. Has won on seasonal reappearance before and can’t be taken lightly however entering the twilight of his career now and surely may be open to horses with younger legs.
If course form is anything to go off you have to take Stormy Air very seriously. Two victories from three course starts means the Denis Hogan trained five year old is no back runner and looks definite value for punters looking for an each way selection.
Very much the unknown quantity is Dermot Weld’s runner Jewel Maker who may be worth another shot despite a very poor seasonal reappearance. The horse was having to overcome nearly a year off the race course and should be much fitter for his recent outing. A step up in trip should be a positive and it may surprise a few.
The one I’ve opted for however is Gasta. One of only two females in the race she seemed to have turned a corner when finishing second last time out. With only one run at Cork previously it was far from disappointing when she finished fourth and that was over an inadequate trip. A step up to a mile and with seven pound less weight to carry since that run she’s set for a long awaited return to the winners enclosure.
GASTA (WIN) – NAP
