13:40 Uttoxeter We open today’s article with the opening race from Uttoxeter. Top trainer Jonjo O’Neill sends Monbeg Gold here after a second placed finish at Bangor last time out. It wasn’t a bad performance that day but the stable are out of form and is likely to find one or two too good again today. Unlike Jonjo one trainer that is in form is Charlie Longsdon who is saddling the current favourite Coopers Friend. The yard have a 33% strike rate over the past fortnight and this runner looks a worthy favourite. A second placed finish behind a subsequent handicap winner at Southwell is by far the best form on offer and it should go one better today. Of the horses that are making their debut over obstacles I’d be wary of Medieval Bishop who ran a couple of nice races on the flat this year albeit in low grade contests. Coopers Friend (WIN)
14:00 Plumpton From one opening race to another as we head to the first from Plumpton for our second selection. If the betting is anything to go by it looks set to be a three horse race with Argot, See The Rock and Mountain Fighter vying for favouritism. Argot hails from the same stable as my first selection but it worries me that it’s had enough chances to win and it hasn’t gone through with it. That sort of form makes me question the horses mentality and I have to side against it today. The newcomer from Jonjo O’Neill’s stable See The Rocks is very interesting especially after winning it’s last race on the level. Regardless of how the horse performs today it should be one to watch for the future. My concern however is that the five year old hasn’t been seen on the racecourse in ten months and it’s likely that it will need this run and maybe a longer trip. This leaves me with John Ferguson’s Mountain Fighter who is beautifully bred and won well after a long lay off. With only three runs over either code it should have vast scope for improvement that gives this four year old a great chance for a yard that’s bang in form. Mountain Fighter (WIN)
15:30 Plumpton My third and final selection is hardly rocket science and isn’t a great price value wise. None the less Paddys Runner looks like it’s been found an easy enough task to shake off its maiden tag. I think the only remote threat to this ones chances is Zabeel Star who had a few wins on the level. That being said however the Alan King runner should take this after a second placed finish behind a decent horse on its one and only hurdles start. Paddys Runner (WIN)
