SATURDAY WEEKENDER

15:35 Curragh

Our first race away from today’s TV tips comes from The Curragh. Gordon Lord Byron immediately catches the eye and arrives here on the back of an impressive run when third at Deauville earlier this month, finishing just a length away from Muhaarar who in turn was completing a hat-trick of wins. His record here only reads one win from eight (which was over todays’ trip) but he has placed on five other occasions over varying distances and should be capable of holding off some of his younger rivals in this.

Toscanini and Letters Of Note were only separated by a neck when they last met at Naas in July and look the most likely to give the selection something to think about. Toscanini followed up with a close second to Mattmu in a Group 3  over course and distance earlier this month, while Letters Of Note went one better beating Byzantium in a listed race at Naas. However they both appear very closely matched and could end up racing against each other, leaving our selection free to run his own race and emerge victorious.

Gordon Lord Byron (WIN)

16:40 Chester

Straightothepoint was unlucky not to finish closer to the winner when fourth at Leicester but was hampered when just getting up a head of steam. He probably wouldn’t have caught the winner but would definitely have been closer and can benefit from a 1lbs ease in the weights for todays’ race.

Gabrial The Tiger has a great record of seven top three finishes from nine attempts on turf and was only beaten a nose in to second when last seen over course and distance in July, although is likely to find today tougher as he has been upped to a mark of 80, his highest ever mark.

Soie D’Leau has the benefit of stall one but should also find this tougher, having been given an 8lbs rise for a two length win last time out.

Absolute Champion steps back up to six furlongs after a win and placed effort over five. He has won over todays’ trip on two prior occasions but both were on the all-weather surface at Kempton and he is now 8lbs higher than his last winning mark.

Straightothepoint (E/W if 9/2+)

20:45 Chelmsford

Yorkindred Spirit was headed in the final 50 yards over sixteen furlongs at Lingfield earlier this month but was in front two furlongs from home and races off the same mark for todays’ race. Jim Crowley takes over from Silvestre De Silva and has a 38% win record here at Chelmsford with eight wins from twenty one runs. With a jockey who knows how to win on this surface, a similar effort to her last run should be enough to get her head in front today.

Unex Modigliani attempts fourteen furlongs for the first time but has raced over further in his two attempts over hurdles and placed at Kempton when last seen. He was four lengths behind the winner and is yet to post a career win but has a 50% strike rate for placed efforts and looks the most likely to give the selection the most to think about.

Of the remainder, both Born To Reign and Shifting Moon are previous winners here at Chelsmsford and rate as other possible dangers.
