SATURDAY WEEKENDER

13:05 Kelso Starting the day off with a bit of jumps action as we head up to Kelso for their second race. A few of the runners here are making their seasonal debuts so how fit any of them will be is under question. One that is sure to be fit, after a very impressive second placed finish at Carlisle, is the Sue Smith trained Brother Scott. The trainer is in fine form at the moment and a small one pound rise seems quite kind and has to be selected. Of the remaining runners the likely danger is the old timer, from the Lucinda Russell yard, Crackerjack Lad who had a decent third placed finish in its last run and may retain a bit of ability. Brother Scott (WIN)

16:05 Doncaster Moving away from the jumpers to take in the last race at Doncaster, a whopping twenty two runner, seven furlong handicap. With so many runners a bit of value has to be the order of the day. Cases can be made for numerous runners here but I’m going to opt for a locally trained runner. Yorkshire trainer Richard Fahey is in red hot form as the season draws to a close with a near 25% strike rate recently. He enters just the one runner in this contest, the course and distance winning Personal Touch. The five year old has hit some form after picking up a win last time out and with previous winning form over course, distance and on soft ground from just a one pound lower mark it’s got a great chance. As mentioned earlier cases can be made for quite a few of its rivals but the most noticeable ones seem to be Maggie Pink and Sophisticated Heir. Personal Touch (E/W)

16:10 Sandown Our final selection comes promptly just five minutes after our second pick as we take in a National Hunt flat race from Sandown. Charlie Longsdon’s Deadly Move is undoubtedly the horse to beat but a fourth placed finish last time out wouldn’t leave anyone too confident and as such I look elsewhere. Of the rest of the entrants I’m siding with Venetia Williams unraced Kap Jazz. The yard is doing well and the horse wouldn’t have to be too good to win this. The trainer is known to be able to ready a newcomer and the four year old should give a good account of itself. Kap Jazz (WIN)
