SATURDAY WEEKENDER

18:15 Wolverhampton All of today’s Saturday Weekender selections come from Wolverhampton’s evening meeting. The first pick of today’s trio is a good each way bet. Despite a disappointing run on the all-weather back in January this horse has run some great races in some well known handicaps and this is a marked step down compared to some of its previous competition. Ralph Beckett persists with five year old Haaf A Sixpence and I gather it must be showing ability in training. If it’s anywhere near its best then it will undoubtedly take a hand in this. The David O’Meara duo have fantastic chances but I fear any value in their prices have gone. The race itself is wide open but a chance has to be taken on the Graham Gibbons ride. Haaf A Sixpence (E/W if 5/1+)

18:45 Wolverhampton Another wide open handicap to tackle but a very interesting change of trainer for one horse sparks some serious intrigue. Tony Carroll has his horses firing at the moment and has taken over the training responsibilities of four year old gelding Baltic Prince. The horse has a decent record at the course and a drop in the weights gives the horse a great chance. Of the remaining runners cases can be made for a whole host of my selections rivals but I fear Bonjour Steve and Prince Of Passion the most. Baltic Prince (E/W at 5/1+)

21:15 Wolverhampton We finish off with the last race of the meeting at Wolverhampton and yet another handicap to decipher. The stand out horse here has to be Tony Carroll’s San Quentin who racked up a decent win at Kempton last time out but I fear it maybe inconsistent and I have to look elsewhere. Another mention has to go to top weight Yorksters Prince who’ll definitely be in the mix but top weight maybe too much of a burden to bare. I’m therefore going for the Jo Hughes runner Caledonia Laird who finished a decent fourth place when last seen at the course so clearly handles the tapeta. The three year old will still have improvement in them and wouldn’t need to be much to take a low grade race like this. Caledonia Laird (E/W if 5/1+)
