SATURDAY WEEKENDER

12:50 Lingfield

Away from the live action we head to Lingfield for today’s selections and we kick off in the one mile four furlong selling stakes at 12:50

Ghosting is the pick here for trainer Tom Dascombe. The assistance of any headgear is absent here for the first time since his debut in 2013. He has certainly got claims at these weights and with the assistance of Jim Crowley I expect the Invincible Spirit gelding to get his head in front here. The stable have a good strike rate at the track and when they enter their older horses into selling races they have a staggering 69% strike rate.  With that stat in mind he is very hard to ignore and the extra two furlongs could unlock some improvement.

Noguchi could put his last effort behind him returned to Polytrack.  Disappointing last time at Southwell, if that run is forgiven and the visor sparks something the cheek-pieces didn’t he could steal a place here.

Any market support for Classic Colori would be noteworthy. Replacing the blinkers worn last time out with cheek-pieces could help freshen him up after a disappointing effort last time.

13:25 Lingfield

The second selection can be found running in the one mile maiden race the 13:25.

I have sided with the Gary Moore trained Rockfast. Despite showing plenty of greenness on debut he managed to hold his own in a battle to finish second over seven furlongs here. He should come on for the outing and he has been give some time since that effort and returns here in a race that looks to lack much depth. The extra distance should be within range and he should be able to go one better today.

Emirates Skycargo Looks the one to beat, improving on his second start to finish less that a length in second after trying to put the race to bed a furlong out. On that form he won’t be far away, but at likely short odds he could find one or two too good.

Dansili Dash could be the dark horse here. He is starting at a reasonable distance and if holds any real ability could upset his rivals for trainer David Elsworth.

Rockfast (E/W)

15:10 Lingfield

We finish up todays selections with the 15:10. A six furlong handicap.

Birdie Queen is the pick here. Looking as if she timed her challenge a fraction to late last time, the surface that day was described as slow so that could well be a valid excuse. She shouldn’t need any excuses today as the extra furlong looks likely to play to her strengths and there is no better hold up jockey than today’s rider George Baker. She won’t be any fancy price but it’s worth bearing in mind she was gambled from an opening show of 5/1 in the 3/1 favourite and the early price available could be well worth taking. The winner that day has run well since finishing a good second earlier this week.

Glastonberry could be a danger here. Down in grade he could have an excellent chance off this mark but is another who needs things to drop right.

Thataboy looks to be the main danger. And with jockey Eoin Walsh claiming a valuable 5lbs allowance he could easily finish in the money.
