14:35 Lingfield
Away from the live action we head to Lingfield for today’s Saturday weekender.
The first of the selections runs in the 14:35. A one mile maiden.
Charlie Appleby saddles Pathway to Honour here. Reunited with jockey Adam Kirby here on his fourth attempt at breaking his maiden tag. Kirby rode him on his penultimate start and finished a staying on second, a position he has filled in all three starts.
Last time out at this venue he hit the front possibly to early and was collard close home, I can’t see any reason to think he has got any real dangers in the line-up and barring jockey error should see of his challengers.
Main Danger looks to be the Andrea Atzeni ridden Cornelius. Well backed on debut he went down fairly easily to the winner that day. The drop in trip here could suit but with the consistent profile of the selection it looks hard to see him gain a victory here.
If handling the switch from Fibresand to Polytrack the Luke Morris ridden Reetaj could pose most problems for the selection. If they go for home too soon then the peter Chapple-Hyam trained colt could pounce late on.
Pathway To Honour (WIN)
15:10 Lingfield
The second pick of the afternoon runs in the 15:10. A Class 3 Handicap ran over six furlongs.
Primrose Valley impressed when winning on reappearance last month at Kempton. He provided jockey Frederik Tylicki with his first winner since returning from injury. That duo combine once again here, and with the second that day winner yesterday at Wolverhampton he certainly looks to be a horse that still retains the ability we saw as a two year old. In the first three on both occasions he has ran at this track there is plenty of reasons to think back to back wins are likely and is the second selection of the card.
Main Danger and principle market rival is the Charlie Appleby trained Barchan. Winner here previously and in the frame of a mark of 73 on his penultimate start he comes here on the back of a seven furlong win at Wolverhampton. He is up to a mark of 80 here and despite Shane Gray’s claim offsetting a valuable 3lb he looks to have it all to do.
Something Lucky is the unknown here. Fair form in France where he contested listed races. The drop in class will make it that much easier and looks an interesting each way prospect.
Primrose Valley (WIN)
15:45 Lingfield
The last of today’s selections runs in the 15:45. A Class 2 Handicap ran over a mile.
Melvin The Grate comes here in fine form. Ultra consistent he caught the eye last time when staying on without the full assistance of his jockey. He will certainly be popular here and the early prices available look certain to shorten leading up to race time. That said it does look an open contest with a few having fair claims and for that reason I have looked elsewhere.
Sovereign Debt has been given a real chance with a drop in the weights, but with such a lengthy absence I feel if the stable have any long term plans for the horse then he won’t be given to hard a race. He could easily surprise though and an each way finish could be on the cards.
The final pick however will be the Brian Meehan Trained Stormy Paradise. A return to action over course and distance gave hope that the previous efforts seen in 2013 may be repeatable after just the one disappointing appearance in 2014. The lower All Weather rating looks to be exploitable and with a recent run under his belt he could cause an upset here at a nice price under jockey Luke Morris
