13.10 Lingfield
Away from the live action we head to Lingfield for today’s Saturday weekender.
The first of the selections runs in the 13:10. A one mile handicap.
The much anticipated return to uk action for Ryan Moore sees him take the ride on the Jeremy Noseda trained colt Nigel’s Destiny. Certain to be popular in the betting he comes here on the back of a disappointing second, going down late on when sent off favourite in a similar contest at Kempton. Dual winner at that venue, over both 7f and todays trip of a mile, he should finish in the money but may just be that he needs this run to sharpen him up.
The selection here will be the Eve Johnson-Houghton Trained Drive On. Winner over both 6f and 7f here in addition to two Kempton victories over the latter distance means he has to prove the step up to a mile will suit. In rude form this year and with the assistance of veteran jockey Joe Fanning he could cause the market principles some problems if ridden to stay the extra furlong. He clearly handles the surface and given a trouble free passage has the ability to figure at this level.
Franco’s Secret looks to make it 3 wins from 3 runs at the track. The latest rise for his last victory could just be enough to stop him here.
Drive On (E/W)
14:15 Lingfield
The next selection runs in the 14:15. A class 2 handicap ran over seven furlongs.
The Quick turn out here of the Dandy Nichols trained Sovereign Debt takes my eye here. A fine second on reappearance after a long layoff saw him finishing his race well, albeit too late on in the contest. I gave him a mention last time but passed him over due to the long layoff. The run last time showed plenty of ability remains and would’ve blown any cobwebs off. There is a danger todays run may come too soon, he has shown enough speed in the past to figure here and although the draw has been unkind if he is ridden with more aggressive tactics he could well put the rest of the field on the back foot. Whichever way he is ridden should see him make the frame and Sovereign Debt is our second selection of the afternoon.
Shyron is the one they all have to beat. Improving with every run the George Margarson trained gelding looks to continue his winning ways here. Winner of his last two runs both over course and distance he has plenty of positives to make a case for him once again. Out of the money just once in his last 6 runs, with excuses on that occasion, he is ultra-consistent and will certainly give his all but with another rise in the weights the handicapper could have his measure.
Related has each way claims here. Not getting the best of passages last time when behind Shyron and losing all chance when bumped just over a furlong from home he should be seen to better effect here and if they fall away in front David Simcock’s charge could pick them up late on.
Sovereign Debt (E/W)
14:50 Lingfield
The final selection runs in the 14:50. A one mile, four furlong maiden.
Chorus Of Lies lines up here for Charlie Appleby and ridden by Adam Kirby. He will be the one to beat on previous efforts and comes here for his first outing since October. This doesn’t strike me as a weak race. Both Mister Rockandroll and opera lad both have sound looking claims at this level. Opera lad stayed on eye-catchingly when getting the hang of things and with that experience under his belt could improve markedly.
That Said Mister Rockandroll has sound claims, Clear second on his only start on the all-weather he showed there he can handle polytrack and with the extra distance looking well within range he looks likely to run well
A chance is taken with the unraced Kevin Ryan Colt Al Nehayy. Ridden here by Ryan Moore and holding a Derby entry its clear he was, at least at some point, highly regarded. If anywhere god enough to compete at that level he should be able to outclass his rivals here, even over this staying trip first time up. If Ryan Moore hasn’t ridden his First winner of 2015 before this contest its highly conceivable he will have afterwards.
Al Nehayy (WIN)
