Old warrior Borderlescott has had a glittering career and despite not being the force of old his enthusiasm hasn’t dimmed, he came agonisingly close to landing a race named in his honour over course and distance earlier in the year and a repeat may be enough to take this. The drying ground conditions are unlikely to bother him and he’s given to record an emotional success at decent odds. Kickboxer deserves to go off favourite after a string of good efforts, a reproduction of his latest second behind Justice Day ought to be enough to win. Tangerine Tree’s is another old warrior worth respecting, his last win was over trip and track and his trainer is in fine form at present.

A few of these will be out over obstacles before too long so caution and market checks are advised. Caledonia was beaten in last years renewal off a 5lbs lower mark, he can be tricky to catch right but has had a few runs after a break and should strip fitter today. Jim Goldie’s decision to book talented 5lbs claimer Jordan Nason could prove decisive on the forecast soft ground, currently trading at 20/1 he looks a risk worth taking and can run into the money. Kashmiri Sunset has been heavily supported for this having run some cracking races in three year old handicaps, he’s also a full brother to former Cesarewitch winner Darley Sun so stamina shouldn’t be an issue. He looks a worthy favourite and must be respected but lacks any sort of value, others to respect are Dr Irv and last years winner Be Perfect.

A few of these like to go from the front so a hold up type maybe the way forward, the Queens Shama looks the type to do better with age and is certainly with the right trainer ( Sir Michael Stoute ) she wouldn’t have to improve much on her last run to figure and is massively respected today. Nanton is twelve now but has been a grand old servant, he recorded his fourteenth win impressively over this trip before running a mighty race in the Silver Cambridgeshire last time. With a decent pace looking likely Jim Goldie’s evergreen charge can run most down late and is given to do that off his workable mark. Red Runaway did us a good turn at Kempton last time and did it impressively, he’s respected today but is seen as an AW specialist so is passed over.
